WORDS about the WORD
written by local pastors
Day of Prayer service set
By Janet Chapman
What's under Your Nose.
We can see from what hap-
pens in our world today the ef-
fect of words on peoples' lives.
Words through television, the
news media, videos and music
can sway and affect our whole
country.
According to God's Word,
words are powerful, and as
Christians, we are held account-
able for our words, even idle
words. Proverbs 18:20 says that
there is life and death in the
power of the tongue and that we
will eat the fruit of our words. A
good scripture to start every day
off with is Psalms 19:14, "Let
the words of my mouth and the
meditation of my heart be ac-
ceptable in Thy sight, O Lord,
my strength and my redeemer."
God's Word, conceived in our
heart, spoken from our mouth
(the thing that's under our nose),
can release the ability of God in
our lives. It is Cod's spoken word
that created the heavens and
: the earth. Matthew tells us that
we are either justified or con-
J demned by our words.
One thing to think on is that
our future is in our mouth (the
thing that's right under our
nose). According to our words,
our future can be good or bad.
When people say they "can't"
and when they say then "can,"
they are both right because our
words can either put us over or
under.
We can be taken captive by
our own words and our own
words can put us in a place where
we can't receive from God. We
can go outside and see a law that
is set into motion all around us
and that is God's law of sowing
and reaping.
God's law also works spiritu-
ally. The Word says that those
who sow to the wind will reap
the whirlwind. We can with our
own tongue form the very Words
that can defeat us. How are we
going to see positive results in
our lives When we constantly
sow negative words?
The safe thing is to line up
our words with God's Word.
When we think we "can't" in
situations and circumstances in
our. life, the Word of God says, "I
can do. all things through Christ
which strengthens me." If we
say that we believe God's Word,

then we don't need to be confess-
ing things contrary to God's Word.
Second Timothy 1:7 says that
God has given us a sound mind
and 1 Corinthians says that we
have the mind of Christ. That
means that we don't need to say
things like "I think I'm losing
my mind!" or "This is driving me
nuts!" or "Dumb me."
Third John 2 says, "Beloved, I
wish above all things that thou
mayest prosper and be in health,
even as thy soul prospers." The
Word also says that by Jesus'
stripes we are healed. If we want
to stand on God's Word for heal-
ing and health, then instead of
saying things like "I. am taking
the flu," it would probably help
our faith by stating, "I am resist-,
ing the flu." We.sometimes say,
"I believe I'm coming'down with
something" and if we believe it,
then we've already received it.
People askus how we are feel-
ing and we unload on them with
things like "My back is killing
me and I. can't do a thing," or "I
have had the worst week of my
life and I'd be better off dead," or
"My head is about to explode and
I am zapped of energy."
Seeds produce after their own
kind. How can. positive, things
come out of sowing seeds (words)
of sickness, death and defeat?
Ephesiarts 5:1 in the Ampli-
fied says to be imitators of God,
copy Him and follow His ex-
ample. I think that also means
to speak what God speaks. Ro-
mans 4:17 says that God called
those things which be not as
though they were. In other
words, what God has promised
us, we can speak those things as
. if they already existed. His Word
says that we are more than con-
querors and if we Would begin to
come into agreement with God's
Word and confess it, we would
be affected much differently than
if we constantly confessed de-
feat If we are claiming a prom-
ise God has given us and we
haven't seen the manifestation
yet, what, is going to keep our
faithstrong until it is manifested
to come into agreement with
God's Word and confess it in-
stead of doubt and unbelief;
There is something in our
soulish reasoningthat willfight
us tooth and nail When we begin
to confess God's Word over our
lives, but it is worth the tight.
When we realize that by.ourown
words We are either justified or
condemned and that there is life
and death in the power of bur
tongue.
James 3:4 says (speaking
about the tongue) "Behold also
the ships, which though they be
so great, and are driven of fierce
winds, yet are they turned about
with a very small helm,
whithersoever the governor
listeth/'That little rudder in our
mouth under our nose can de-
termine which direction our lives
will take. To travel the path that
God has ordained tor us, we need
to line up our words with the
Word of God.

Civic prayers .and national
days of prayer have had a long
and enduring history in the
United States, dating back to
the First Continental Congress
in 1775.
In 1952, Congress passed a
joint resolution, signed by Presi-
dent Harry S. Truman, estab-
lishing the annual day ofprayer.
The resolution was amended
and signed by President Ronal4
Reagan in 1988 to permanentl j
set the National Day of Prayef
of the first Thursday in May. :
Those who cannot attend the
city-wide service on the court-
house square are asked topause
during the noon hour to lift up
the nation in prayer.
- The local service will coin-
cide with the time that thour
sands of organizations and
churches across the country are
also participating in prayer see-
vices.

SLEEP APNEA is deadly!
Persistent -'sinus' arid nasal obstruction are often the
CAUSE of a deadly duo of snoring and sleep apnea,
