Three cowboy poets will entertain
listeners while telling of life as a cow-
boy in the West. All three will recite
poetry in the Hamlin Masonic Lodge,
located on S. W. Second Street, just
west of South Central.

Worship Services
To be Helfl Sunday
At Rath City Site
In what may be a historical event,
worship services will be held at Rath
City Sunday morning. The services will
begin at 8:45 a.m. and end by 9:30 a.m.
so visitors may also attend worship ser-
vices in their home churches.
Alvin G.Davis
of Lubbock will
lead the service.
He will be joined
by cowboy poet
Mike Querner and
musician Stephen
Reynolds, for-
merly of Hamlin.
Davis has de-
voted hisentire life
to the promotion of Western heritage
and the cowboy culture. He currently
serves as president of both the Western
Music Association, American Cowboy
Culture Association and the West Texas
Performing Arts Society. He is chair-
man of the Texas Cowboy Poets Asso-
ciation and the national Cowboy Sym-
posium and Celebration.
Founder of the American Junior Ro-
deo Association, Davis is an acti ve mem-
ber of the Western Writers Association
and served for 13 years as executive vice
president and general manager of the
Ranching Heritage Association.
A businessman, sculptor, auctioneer
and horse breeder, he was the first in-
ductee into the Texas Tech Rodeo Hall
of.Fameand isa lifetime honorary mem-
ber of the Former Texas Rangers Asso-
ciation, National Intercollegiate Rodeo
Association and the Western/English
Retailers Association.
His work history includes "several
years as a farrier (that's a horse shoer
with a thesaurus), horse trainer, horse
and cow trader, windmill greaser, ranch
manager, ranch flunky, feed and seed
salesman, cow magazine ad salesman,
cattle and sheep raisin'. Extensive OJT
in the rodeo dance and bar room brawl."
He lists his best paying job as a cow-
boy technical advisor and part-time ac-
tor and rodeo rider for a movie. "They
never released the movie, but they did
release me," he said.
He has had over 70 poems published,
all humor, in various horse, cow and ag
publications and maybe 1(K) humor ar-
ticles published.
Mike Querner
from Lubbock, is
no stranger to the
Western way of
life. Hisfamily has
been involved in'
ranching for five
generations.
Querner was
raised around cat-
tle and horses and
still day works on
ranches as time permits.
He has been writing and performing
cowboy poetry since 1989. His poetry
has taken him throughout the western
United States to perform at various cow-
boy gatherings and symposiums from
Texas and New Mexico to Wyoming
and Nevada.
Querner is a member of the advisory
board of the National Cowboy Sympo-
sium and Celebration held in Lubbock
each September, the largest event of its
kind in the United States.
He also serves on the board of direc-
tors of the Texas Cowboy Poets Asso-
ciation.
In addition to his performance Satur-
day, Querner will be reciting during the
worship services to be held from 8:45 to
9:30 a.m. Sunday at the Rath City site.
