Students Should
Get SS Card for
Summer Work
Thousands of students across
the United States will go to
work for the first time this
summer. If you are one of
these, you will need your social
secruity number card, accord
ing to R. R. Tuley, Jr., district
manager in Abilene.
You must apply for a social
security account number to get
this card. The number on that
card is used to keep your rec-
ord throughout life. No two per-
sons are given the same num-
ber.
Your employer will ask for
your number as soon as you
begin work, and many com-
panies will not hire you until
you have a number. If you are
a young man about to go into
military service, your military
records will all be recorded by
use of your social security
number.
To get a number, or to re-
place a lost card, you must
complete an application for a
social security number and sub-
mit it to' social security office
The application form may be
obtained at any social security
office, or the post office in your
town.
Although a student is a long
way from retirement age, oth-
er protection can begin in a
very short time, Tuley said.
For instance, if your were to
become severely disabled while
you are still young, you could
receive disability benefits if you
