This will be the 18th annual

All entries in the judging must

The nuts will be judged on
size, color and appearance, shell

All first place entries will be
sent to the regional show, and
other entries will be donated to
a charitable organization.
The food show division will

entries should be in place by
10:00 a.m. Judging will begin at
10:30 a.m.
Recipes must be submitted
with all entries, and all foods
must contain at least 1/2 cup of
pecans. A recipe book contain-

mailed out after the show, and
copies will be available in the
county extension office.

categories. Food divisions in-
clude pies, cakes, candy, nut

Hospital
(Cont. from pg. 1 -A)
is a possibility of obtaining a
grant to help a local medical
student finish school and then
set him up in practice here. More
information will be provided at
a later date:
• Viertel expressed concern
about leaving the hospital build-
ing unoccupied for an extended
period oftime, and asked if board
members were interested in try-
ing to lease the facility as a
treatment center. The directors
told him of several other such
opportunities that never got past
the planning stages. Viertel of-
fered to makg some contacts
about treatment center possi-
bilities.
• Board members discussed
the availability of medical
grants of various types and Tid-
well stated that he would obtain
a book listing such grants.

Tis the season...downtown is
"aglitter" with Christmas deco-
rations and the sidewalks were
filled with shoppers on Satur-
day for Holiday Preview. The
weather was ideal for Christ-
mas shopping and we were hosts
for lots of out-of-town guests.
Don't forget the re-opening of
the Shackelford County Library.
The Albany Study Club, along
with the county, is pleased to
announce the hiring of Gayle
Mikeska as interim librarian.
Call the library for hours of op-
eration and stop by to see the
collection of children's books
donated by Dolly Parten.

Chest still $2,050 away from goal
A steady trickle of Albany
Chest donations this week leaves
the fund $2,050 away from the
1997 goal amount.
Collections at this time are
in line with years past, and with
just six weeks left before the
December 31 deadline, directors
believe that local residents and
businesses will not wait until
the last days of the campaign to
make their donations.
Directors set a goal of $17,000,
which will be distributed to 15
local and area organizations.
Many of these groups depend
almost entirely on the donations
to fund their annual budgets.
Donations to the Albany'
Chest can be given to Darrell
Dodds or any teller at First Na-
tional Bank, or they may be
mailed to P.O. Box 1206, Al-
bany, Texas 76430.
The Albany Chest is a non-
profit organization.
