Walter Boyd was up from his ranch
Friday.
Straw hats at actual cost at McRirn-

R. E. Jones was in yesterday pre-
paring to take a well earned holiday,
having put his crop all in good shape
he proposes to go fishing and have a
good time.

Miss Lola Sherman is the gue3t of
her Aunt Mrs. Joe Palmer, in Albany.
Miss Nora Crow has been quite sick
this week.
A big crowd greeted the ice cream
supper last Tuesday night giv*n at
the Opera House, by the Ladies of
the Chiistian Church, The cream and
cake were splendid, and the music
was enjoyed. Everybody seemed to be
in th« best humor, and the event will
be long remembered by all those pres-
ent.
A. J. Messer shipped a couple of
car loads of horses and mules from
Cisco this week.
The indications are very favorable
for Albany to have a telephone system
at once. Subscribers are being solicted
and wo expect to be able to report the
matter a success, in our next issue.
The telephone system in Albany
will be one of the most appreciated
conveniences that has ever been pro-
posed within its limits, and we hope
that every residence will be supplied.
The Albany and Haskell road is
now in better condition than it has
been for years, and many people will
appreciate the effort of our citizens to
» induce them to bring their wheat to
this market.
S. A. Wilson who is farming the
Hodges place this year, reports the
best crop that he ever made in any
country, and Mr. W. is an old and
experienced farmer.
Jim Thorp came in from Krecken-
ridge Saturday and went to Throck-
morton Monday.
Dr. Oldham has returned to Albany
from his trip down the Central.
Miss Effie Martin called at the News
oftlce yesteyday.

In conversation with one of our
ranch men on Wednesday in reffer-
ence to the telephone system, we were
informed that tliere was no doubt but

tive ranches in this vicinity that would
have telephone connection with Albar.y
within one year from now.

Henry Ball was here on a business
trip last week, and left for hit home

We learn that S. Webb has a miss-
ing saddle, and it is supposed to have
gone the same route as (hose of G. T,
Reynolds and Houston Leech.
Mrs. B. W. llose is with her daugh-
ter, Mrs. L. II. Hill, this week.
The petty thieving that has been
going on for some time in this vicinity
may cause someone trouble if it is not
stopped. There are some people
still here who will tire sf- furnishing
stuff to the pilferer.
J. P. Taylor's family are visiting
at Gooseneck Bend, Young county,
this week.

A. 11. Manning visited Moran last
Sunday. He was at the ranch former-
ly owned by C'apt. Larche but now
the property of J. T. Goosby, and
says he saw the finest orchard with
the finest crop of fruit that he has ever
seen in Texas.
The State Agent for the Penitentia-
ry passed thiough Albany last Friday
with a convict from Haskell by the
name of Miller.

Henry Green a prominent stock
man of Stephens county, was in the
city Saturday.
We hear that a young lady clerk is
offering 50 cents for the scalp of the
shoe drummer who put the playcard
on the chickens in front sf McRim-
inon & Co's. last Friday.
Those cakes that Col. Bruce puts
up at the city Market, are simply im-
mense.
Victor Peak returned Friday from
an extended visit down the, country.
Alex. Ilourigan has just returned
from a visit to Ohio.
As a woodworkman N. R. Price is
equaled by few. And in saying this
we only have to refer to the handsome
piece of furniture that he recently put
up for Dr. F. M. Oldham, resident
dentist of this place. The cabinet
we refer to is to be used by the Dr.
as a storage place for the instruments
and things used by him in the
practice of his profession, and is com-
posed of many neat little drawers and
recesses, with also largo and roomy
places conceiled by doors. The cab-
inet is made of oak and finished in its
natural grjin, with a large mirror in
one side, it is a beautiful piece of
work and shows that Mr. price is up
to date in this line. The polishing
was done by W. T. Tilghman one of
our first-class painters and grainers.
Will Lieb and family were in the
city last Friday.
Pink Huskey reports about (>5 bnsli-
els of oats to the acre this year all
clean and nice.
Mrs Iladley Robert was in the city
Monday morning.
Ed Hayden and two children and
his neighbor Mr, Riley, were in the
city yesterday, and made the News a
call.
