OLNEY
CUBS!!
The Spirit Stick is a long
tradition at Albany High and
this year the student body is
prpud to have a new symbol.
The new Spirit Stick was
painted by Bill Cauble and is
much more, attractive than
the Spirit Sticks have been
in the past.
Each week, at the end of
the pep rally, the spirit stick
is awarded to the class who
has shown the most spirit.
The classes are in continuous
competition with one another
for this award. The signs
that are painted, the cheers
thai are yelled at break, and
who yells loudest at I he pep
rally are all counted to see
who,wins this honor.

By Handy Harrott
It has finally come to the
point where the Albany
Lions must get down to
serious business. The Lions
played host to the Hanger
Bulldogs last Eriday night
and this years' final scrim-
mage proved to be quite a
battle. Both offenses had
strong performances
throughout the night. The
Lions were lead by the
running attack of Jim
Waller, Hob Gates', and Hob
Shack, while quarterback
Charlie Holson had a good
night of passing and playing
the option. The Albany
defense also showed some
signs of being One of the
toughest in their district this
year. The score at the end of
the scrimmage was 5 4 vyith
the Bulldogs at the advan
I age. Even though the Lions
lost oh the scoreboard, they
still gained more experience
for the oncoming season,
In the first four games
this season, the Lions will
face teams much larger and
stronger in experience than
themselves. This Eriday, the
Lions will travel to. Olney to
play the Cubs at 7:110 p in
The Cubs will return most of
their personnel from last
years'.'l*ant and it should lie
an interesting game Olney
has a strong, explosive
offense and it will be up to
the Lion defense, to slop
them from crossing the goal
line
The Albany junior varsity
and eighth giade teams will
play Thursday night' in
