A gentleman stepped into our
office the other dayjmd paid us
$15, with the request that we
send him the Timbers for ten
years. This pays his subscrip-
tion up to 1909. The gentle-
man's name is J. L. Rudy, the
well known attorney of this
city. We liave had subscrib-
ers pay three and four years in
advance, but the payment made
by Mr. Rudy is such a record
breaker that it deserves special
mention. It riot only breaks
the record in this office, but we
doubt if it can be beaten by
any paper in Texas. Trot out
your records, Mr. Editors, and
let us see them.—Bowie Cross
Timbers.
You take the whole culinary
department along with the
Chinese laundry. We never
heard of but one equal, and
that was in Kansas, where the
farmer paid his subscription
every time he came to town and
,got drunk until he was paid up
twenty years in advance. But
we never heard any more from
that source after the Texas
Press gang made an effort to
find out the brand of whiskey
sold in the Kansas town. It
would be gratifying and joyful
tidings for the News to even
get an inkling that some of its
subscribers were trying to pay
back dues.
W. I). Howsley, a prominent
hardware merchant of Throck-
morton, was in our city several
days this week.
Miss Florence Spears has
returned from North Dakota
where she has been with her
sisters for some time. She says
the last cold wave here was
felt more by her than the
Dakota weather where the
thermometer registers 20 below
zero, frequently during the
winter.
A number of passengers
were left in Albany Monday
morning, on account of the
train leaving an hour and a
half before its regular time.

''Needed:—bad, a first class
drug store in Albany, Shackel-
ford county: a fine place for
right men; wealthiest town in
the West; building up very
rapidly. Don't write but
come.
The above appeared in last
Sunday's issue of the Dallas
News, and was read with sur-
prise by many in Albany. No
one seems to know the whys or
wherefores. There are two
good drug stores in this place,
with competent druggists at
their heads.
Word was received here this
week that Jim George., was in
Weatherford and could not get
out, on accounts of that city
being quarantined against
small pox.
The severe norther let up
a little on Monday, and th«
weather has been more in ac-
cordance with the wood and
coal piles of Albany.
Mrs. J. R. Warren left last
Tuesday for Hillsboro, follow-
ed by Mr. Warren on Wednes-
day, who .remained a day later
to attend to the shipping of his
household goods. We regret
very much to lose this estimable
family and hope they will be
well satisfied in their new
home.

Co. for several years, and dur-
ing that time gained an envia-
ble reputation for herself and
the house. Her friends and
former patrons here will wish
her success in her new field of
labor.—Bowie Cross Timbers
