Clay Haskew received a fall the
other day that rendered him spea.ch-
less for a fovv minutes, and which
might have proven more serious than
it did. it seems that he and Jim Mc-
Daniel were driving a bunch of cattle
when an old cow in the lot concluded
she would go back, and succeeded in
dodging Mr. Haskevv's horse, when

he leaped to the ground and catching
the cow by the horns, threw her, he
fall'ng at the same time and the cow
fell on him.
Ruben Jones was
the city Tuesday.

nesday with a bale of cotton and
called to wish the News well.
John Sauer of Haskell, was the
guest of his brother in Albany several
days this week.
A refreshing shower of rnin fell
here last Tuesday night.

A DELIGHTFUL EVENING.
On last Friday evening the cozy
little cottage of Mr. and Mrs. P. H.
Williams un Pecan street was the
scene of much joy and pleasure. From
7 :30 o'clock until 9 o'clock the invit-
ed guests came stragling in as much
as to say we are not from the country,
>ve nrrive at a fashionable hour, we
|o. At the arrival of the first guest.

were put in readiness and this afford-
ed much amusenent. Nothing causes
more laughter t. ian to sit and watch

like saying to the croV away with
your crokinole. Though practice and
understanding make it a most lively
game. Jolly laughter anj merry
conversation lloated upon the atmos-
phere while every heart breathed with
gladness and every soul beamed with
joy. Ere long a sweet message came
saying "come, prepare ye for the
benefits to be accrued from a dining
table." No time was lost in this
preparation, and |\offee, cake and
fruits were administered unto the
aching void. A pleasant time was
had by all and the charming hostess,
together with her old man did much
for the comfort of ail, and received
much praise for the social event
Mrs. J. A. Jordan and children
returned from Beckville Friday eve-
ning.
J_ J. Pettus and family have return-
ed from their holiday visit in the old
states.

Dr. I. J. Culver of Griflin, visited
in Albany on Monday of this week.
The Dr. is making preparations to
take a trip to the Panhandle country
soon.
J. J. Witty was in from Dry Branch
Monday. Jim says became in to have
a talk with the tax collector, and con-
vince the said cc. tctor that horses

public and private.
Dr. Riggs of Dallas, l? - conducting
a series of meetings at the Presbyte-
rian church this week. The Dr. is a
beautiful speaker and is doing some
good preaching.
R. II. Rodgers called and had his
name enrolled on our list this week.
Marshal Biggs is driving the D. O.
McRimmon & Co. delivery.
Perry and Drevvy Grogan of Fort
Griffin, were in Albany Tuesday
County Court convened Monday
with one case on the docket, that of
State of Texas vs. Charles Campbell.
A verdict of guilty was rendered by
the jury and penalty assessed at thirty
days in jail.
Mrs. VV. P. Thurmond was quite
sick a few days this week.
Ben Reynolds who had been in
north Texas for some time, has return-
ed to Albany, and is the guest of his
sister, Mrs. R. M. Coffee.
R. C. Chapmen called Wednesday
and renewed for his papers.. Mr. C.
informs us that he has over one hun-
dred acres of his land broke that will
be used for spring planting.
We caught M. T. Gulledge buying
garden seed last Tuesday. He says
he i? putting in a large hot bed.

After visiting the family of her
cousin, Dr. Casy, Miss Nellie Wallace
returned to her home in Rockdale,
Wednesday.
Those who enjoy keeping time to
sweet music with their pretty feet,
enjoyed a dance at the hospitable
home of Mr. and Mrs. Berry Camp-
bell Monday evening.
The Breckenridge road for Un
miles east of Albany is so rough that
the county has purchased a right-of-
way, extending from the six mile gate
on the Crystal Falls road to the ten
mile gate on the Brecketiridge road in
the Newcomb settlement, and is now
having it opened up as a public road.
This was a wise act of our commis-
sioners as it now gives a first-class
public >oad into Stephens county.
This is also appreciated by the New-
comb people as it cuts off a strip of
