Both Crane and Kermit now
have 41 records with two games
to go, Pecos and Seminole have
Joined Andrews In a three ■ way
deadlock for third place. All have
.'1-2 marks.
Of the current leaders, Crane
appears to have the edge since
the Qolden Cranes hold a vic-
tory over Kermit and will qualify
for the playoff spot If these two
teams tie for the title. At the
same time, the Cranes have oft
beaten Monahans and wlnless Al-
pine remaining on their sched
ule. Monahans, the team the
Cranes meet this week, proves
the most likely stumbling block.
The I.olios have lost to Seminole,
Kermit and Andrews, but are
still well regarded.
,On the other hand, Kermit still
has games with Mrownflcld and
Andrews. Hrownfleld, the team
the Jackets meet this week, Is not
expected to give them much
trouble, but Andrews poses a
real threat In the season's
finale. The Mustangs catch the
Jacket* on the Andrews home
field next week.
Seminole, Pecos and Andrews
all retain outside chances at the
district title but those chances
are slim indeed. For any one of

move past the 15. Later In the
opening period, another fumble
recovery gave the Indians the
ball at the Kermit 3-1 and they
drove to the four, but stalled. In
the second period, Seminole had
Its best sustained drive, one
which carried from the 17 to (lie
Kermit four, but again the visi-
tors' defense failed to yield. Ker
mil did not make any serious
threat In the first hair. Another
fumble recovery In the third
period gave the Indians the bull
on Kcnnll's 25, but II also wont
for naught.
As It turned out, Seminole was
to sorely miss those opportuni-
ties In the second half for the
Jackets threw up an Iron • clad
defense which stopped the In-
dians cold. Except for the touch-
down pass Seminole crossed mid-
field only once In the second
half, that one time being shortly
after the klckoff when a 21-yard
pass from Caffey to tlorold Ste-
wart put the Tribe In Jacket ter-
ritory during a drive which final-
ly bogged down at the 45.
Not only did the Kermit ile
fense swnrm In the Indian ball
carriers, but It also made things
particularly rough on Coffey's
passing, lie was rushed badly
when he faded to pass and often
had to settle for losses after be-
ing unable In find receivers. On
Ids touchdown puns to Walker,
lie was rushed badly and appear-
ed lo be trapped Just before he
fired down field.
Indian defenders were not ex-
actly twiddling their thumbs dur-
ing the game. Although Thomp-
son and Sclilosser, gelling excel-
lent help from Carr In the sec-
ond half, broke through for good
gains Seminole tightened lis de-
fenses when the sltuntlon de-

returned Monday evening from
El Paso where they spent the
week end with their son, PFC.

returned Tuesday morning from
Ada, Oklahoma where they visit
ed over the week end with Mrs.
Whltaker's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
B. O. Fair. All the brothers and
sisters were there for a family
reunion which they held before
one sister and her husband left
for service in Germany.

game, tint each time they wore

After Kermit hail scored Its
final touchdown, Seminole ran
the klckoff back to the 32. But
one running play and a complet-
ed pass netted Just six yards and
the Indians turned tho boll over
to Kermit at the 38. A 15-yard
penalty moved the ball back Into
Kermit territory but the game
ended before the Jackets ran a
Play.
