HARDIN-SIMMONS UNIVERSITY
with both the State and National Associations of Health, Physical
Education, and Recreation.
In addition to the required program in physical education, an
intramural program is fostered to encourage participation in
athletic activities. Participation, however, is voluntary.
A local organization of the Women's Athletic Association is
maintained and encourages intramural activities for women.
STUDENT ACTIVITIES
The university provides for the support of many student activities.
Among these are included athletics, artist course attractions,
student publications, and various student organizations. Students
are admitted without charge to all regularly scheduled athletic
contests and artist course attractions; and receive free of charge
the Brand (weekly student publication) and the Bronco (student
annual publication).
THE COWBOY BAND, THE COWGIRL BAND
Many young men with band training come to Hardin-Simmons
every year because of the Cowboy Band, and for the opportunities
it offers for the serious-minded young musician to get training
under the very best of direction. Trips are made every year, and
one or more tours are arranged that cover a good portion of
Texas.
Besides other opportunities, the University is offering each year
a number of scholarships, to those who have had sufficient experience.
These scholarships are given only after the Director of
the Band passes on the ability of the applicant. Those desiring
information about Band Scholarships should communicate directly
with M. B. McClure, director of the Cowboy Band.
Under the direction of Louise Bolton Lochausen, the Cowgirl
Band offers a splendid opportunity for girls who are interested
in band work. No provision is made for scholarships in this
organization.
OBLIGATIONS TO THE UNIVERSITY
No student will be permitted to graduate from this institution
who fails to make a satisfactory adjustment of his financial account.
Furthermore, neither a transcript of credit, nor a recommendation
to a position, will be given, nor an application for a
certificate be made until such adjustment is effected.34
