dm of UDJvereal now
isHued. The list is "liaitdcd by
Mary Cpwden Clarke of England,
ivins:, and cloncs with JJypnan of
Carthage, a. d. 200-258. Between
hese appear the naine:»of not ighh
han thirty-two American author*
( which shows the great importance
•>f the work in this respect), m-
;lurling the names of S- L. Clem-
ens (Mark Twain), Robert Coll-
yer, J. Fenimore Cooper, Henry
Clay, Bishop Coxe, F. S. Cozzen>
(author of Sparrowgrass Papers),
£. M. Crawford, and Geo. Win.
Curtis. French literature is rep-
resented by Cousin and Compte,
Chinese by Confucius, Italian by
Coionnn—and thus the whole
world is brought under tribute.
The Record of Philadelphia says:
"The plan of the work is certain-
ly original, and excellent judgment
has been shown both in the choice
of authors and of subjects." The
Christian Union pronounces it
'excellent." The Argus and
Patriot of Vermont says: "The
project is an admiruble one.
When completed the student and
general reader will have a com-
plete Cyclopedia of all there is
valuable in the whole range of
iterature." The form in which
it is issued is as superior as it is
unique, the volumes are handy,
Uie type all that can ba desired,
ind the binding is in the very best
•usto. Perhaps the most reirmrk-
tble feature about the work is its
low cost-^only 30 cents for paper,
50 cents for cloth, 60 cents for
half Morocco bound volumes of
nearly 500 pages each, and even
from these prices large reduction
is made to early purchasers. Re-
jiiig upou the intrinsic merits of
the work the publisher offers a
specimen volume m cloth for 25
cents, or in half Morocco 35 cents
postage 8 cents extra), on condi-
ion that within three days after
i oceipt you will remit the balance
>f the price or return the volume.
The work is planned to be com-
pleted in fifteen volumes. The
publisher's G4-page descriptive
catalogue of standard and popular
works is sent free to any appli-
•ant. Address John b. Alden,
Publisher, New York or Chicago.

curable—with j>erfect success
in every instance where their
directions as to living and diet
were ecrupulously followed.
Nervous Dyspepsia and Ex-
haustion is a peculiarly Ameri-
can disease. To a greater or
less extent half the people of
this country suffer from it—
both sexes and all ages. In no
country in tlio world are thertr
so many insane asylums filled
to overflowing, all resulting
from this alarming disease. Its
leading symptoms are these:
Frequent or continual head-
ache ; a dull pain at the base
of the brain; bad breath; nau-
seous eructations; the rising
of sour and pungent fluids to
the throat; a sense of oppress-
ion and faintness at the pit of
the stomach; flatulence; wake-
fulness and loss of eleep; dis-
gust with food even when
weak from the need of it; sticky
or slimy matter on the teeth or
in the mouth, especially on ris-
ing in the morning; furred and
coated tongue; dull eyes; cold
bands ar.cT feet; constipation;
dry or rough skin ; inability to
fix the mind on any labor call-
ing for continuous attention;
and oppressive and Bad fore-
bodings and fears.
All this terrible group
Shaker Extract (Seigel's
Syrup) removes by its pos-
itive, powerful, direct yet
painless and gentle action upon
the functions of digestion and
assimilation. Those elements
of the food that build up and
strengthen the system are sent
upon their mission, while all
waste matters (the ashes of life's
fire) which unremoved, poison
and kill, are expelled from the
body through the bowels, kid-
neys and skin. The weak and
prostrated nerves are quieted,
toned and fed by the purified
blood. A3 the result, health,
with its enjoyments, blessings
and power, returns to the suf-
ferer who had, perhaps, aband-
oned all hope of ever
another well day.
