Emmett L. McCanlies, Parachute
Rigger First Class, U. S. N., who
has just returned to this country
on leave, was a member of Air
Group 45 on one of the Navy's fast
Independence—class carriers and
paiticipated in many of the squad-
ron's important strikes against the
enemy in the Pacific. He is cred-
ited with having performed hi.-:
duties on numerous occasions while
under enemy attack.
He entered the Navy in the fall
of 1941. The 22 year old bluejack
et is a graduate of the Moran high
school, where he took part in foot
ball, basketball, baseball, and
track. He is the son of Mrs. Fay
McCanlies of 3645 Crestline, Fort
Worth, Texas.
He was married to Miss Louise
Anderson of Tennessee on June 5,
1945. He had a 30-day leave with
his folks at Fort Worth and Moran
He returned to San Diego, Calif,
by plane. After six weeks in Fort
Worth, he was joined by his wife in
California.

KIRBY C. EDDLEMAN
Kirfcy C. Eddleman, son of Mrs.
Lula Eddleman of Route 1, Moran,
received his discharge in Novem-
ber, 1944. after having served more
than four years in the Air Forces.
He served in numerous other states
as well as in Texas, with the Air
Transport Command. He held the
rank of lieutenant at the time of
his discharge.

TOM ROGER MORRIS, S 1/c
Tom Roger Morris S 1/c, son of
Mrs. Wayne Hitt, enlisted in the
U. S. Navy, September 1943. He is
now on duty in the South Pacific
He attended high school at Moran.

Sgt. Charles J. Gardner, son of
Mr. and Mrs. John Gardner, is a
graduate of the Moran high school.
He received his training as a radio
technician at El Paso, and at Camp
White, Ore. He served 17 months
overseas with General Hodges'
First Army and is still in the
European theatre.
