Wanted Opposition That Can Take It
has scored again If ever the
Traditional Hornet sportsmanship
sporuLnshlp of a school was tested it has been this term when
Tulia has been on the small end of practically every game she has
heard the earn or coacte
ptayri But how many times have you
contest decisions of the officials Many times 1 on d
sidelines than from the eyes of the reforoo but he
ercnt from the
defeated and showed the fans that
conches knew when they were
THEY COULD TAKE IT
the which a neighboring school
Contrast this spirit with scene
afternoon Athletics have
Friday
created in a Dimmltt gymnasium
sunk to a pretty low ebb in a school when coaches hired to train
sportsmanship deliberately violate not only the principles
boys in good
ciples of fair play and good taste but rules made by the Texas Interscholastic
league
We have heard of outlaw mountaineer teams who threw away
Uu rule book at a certain stage of the game but we didnt know
any of these teams existed in West Texas
In spite of the poor sportsmanship which the Happy team exhibited
The Hornet sympathizes with the boys for having a coach
that JUST CANT TAKE IT
Are Some Of Us Parasites
Should students who cannot afford to pay the nominal admission
charge at school programs be admitted free This is a vital
question inasmuch as it has been started tills year and a precedent
is about to be set
Certainly no student who has paid admission to a performance
would begrudge the free admission of a fellow student who lacked
the five or 10 cent charge But there is another side to the story
Are those who do not attend unable to pay or do they deliberately
stay away thinking they will bo admitted free later Unfortunately
there is a group who docs this very thing
As the late comers arrived at the Col Davis lecture many
were in the group who had refused to pay admission earlier in the
day remarking that they probably would get in free if they held out
for a few minutes It was also noteworthy that this group who seated
themselves near the rear of the auditorium were very inattentive
and created an excess of confusion
Is it possible that this practice might teach students that they
should get something for nothing Does life give to those who cant
afford to pay One grade school boy refused to attend saying that
Jt wasnt fair for him to go free when others had to pay Another
remarked I was certainly a chump for paying when I could have
gotten in free had I waited a few minutes
If this practice is continued how many paid admissions will be
received at the next program The Hornet speaking for the student
body thinks it is an unfair practice and advocated Its abolishment
despite the fact that entertainers usually request that everyone
be admitted

of an unfair score decision
Tying the Happy Cowboys at
the end of the game with a 2026
score the teams agreed to play
an overtime period which ended
in a 292 tie The second overtime
period ended in a 3131 tie
An agreement was reached
wheroby the first team to make
a field goal was to win the game
The Hornets made the first field
goal but the game was awarded
to Happy on the basis of two

FLOYD CARPENTER
Floyd Carpenter public school
music director and prominent

in 1939 from Oklahoma immediately
following his graduation
from the teachers college at
Alva
Beginning his music career in
Burlington Okla High school
he was active In choral singing

chose music as a career and enrolled
at Northwestern State
Teachers college Again active in
music circles ho was a member
of the College Chapel choir
heading the organization for two
years Kappa Delta Phi Chi Beta
Nu and the McDowell club
With rare vocal talent it is
understandable why ho majored
In music however he is not
compelled to rely on his college
record to justify his reputation
as a musician
His fine music department has
become one of Tulias greatest
assets winning statewide recognition
last spring Largely
through Carpenters efforts Tulia
has finally outgrown that attitude
held only by the ignorant
and uncultured that musicians
are sissies
A member of the Friends
church he is music director at

Fine Music
Department
The characteristic of Tulla
schools which most impresses
mc is the excellent spirit of cooperation
between teachers and
students revealed Dr E P
Stewart Tulia Kiwanls president
to a Hornetreporter this
week
The local surgeon is most interested
in the commercial and
music departments and thinks
the new grand piano is one of
the many things which have
contributed to the general improvement
of the school
I like The Hornet better than
any previous school paper and
especially enjoy the fine editorials
and citizen features he
said when asked for his opinion
of this years paper
Complimenting the present administration
and school board
the doctor said he knows of no
really outstanding need of the
school
At all times taking the lead
In promoting cooperation and
good will between the school
and Klwanis club Dr Stewart
has won the friendship and admiration
