Joint purchase and ownership
of expensive machinery
makes it possible for small operators
to have the use of the laborsaving
devices at a cost within
the ability of the small farm unit
to pay
Wells said it has been estimated
that farmers next year would
buy if it were available 40 percent
more machinery than they
purchased in 1940 but that it was
probable only 90 percent of the
1940 amount would be available
because of the shortage of metals
This means farmers will have
to get along with 50 percent less
machinery than they figure theyll
need to carry out their operations
