Local Pecan Tree Inspections Verify
Presence Of Nut Casebearer Worms
On Monday, June 2, the
pecan trees at the court-
house and other locations
in town were inspected
and numerous pecan nut
casebearer eggs were
found. No worm entries
had been made on Mon
day. Pecan tree inspec
tions on Tuesday how
ever, revealed numerous
entries into the nutlets by
the pecan nut casebearer
This indicates that the
control applications of in-
secticide should have
been applied starting
Mondsy and Tuesday of
this week. One cluster of
pecans inspected had a
worm entering every
nutlet on the cluster of six
pecans. Timing of control
measures is critical and
the dates recommended
last week of June 2
through 7 may be a little
late in some instances.
Trees should be sprayed
immediately based on the
above findings

Defects In FmHA-Financed Homes
Should Be Reported By October 12
Some borrowers who
received loans from the
Farmers Home Admini
stration to buy new
homes during parts of
1976 77 have been given
additional time to apply
for compensation for
structural defects which
may have occurred in
their homes
A provision of the
Housing and Community
Development Act of 1979
authorizes those who
received housing loans
between April 12 1976
and October 12, 1977 to
make claims for construc
tion defects until October
12, 1980, said W H
Pieratt, State Director
Since October 12, 1977,
Farmers Home, the rural
development service of
the U. S Department of
Agriculture, has offered a
program of compensation
for construction defects
to its borrowers who pur
chase new homes. Bor
rowers can file claims for
18 months afte-r they pur
chase homes.
If defects are noted in
an FmHA financed home,
the borrower first should
contact the builder or con
tractor who issued the
builder's warranty to try
to resolve the problem
If problems cannot be
resolved with builders
and the defect "directly
and significantly reduces
the useful life or
habitability of the dwel
ling," borrowers should
contact the nearest
FmHA County Office.
Compensation can be
made for defects which af
feet the basic components
of a dwelling, such as its
foundation, basement,
walls, floors, framing or
roof, or the heating
system, water supply, or
sewsge disposal system,"
Mr. Pieratt said.
Farmers Home has ad
vised its field offices to
notify by letter sll bor
rowers who may be eligi-
ble to file compensation
claims during the extend
ed period. The letters will
inform borrowers how
and when they may apply
and explain the types of
"Up to $5 million is
■ available nationwide for
compensation for struc
tural defects during fiscal
year 1980." Mr Pieratt
said .'However, the
number of complaints is
small. As of March 12, on
ly $220,064 has been ex
pended for 121 claims
He added that in fiscal
year 1979, $1 million was
allocated for the nation
wide program, but
$383,188 was paid for 229
claims
