Homebuilders Class
Visits Mrs. Brown
Mrs. Tom Brown entertained
the Homebuilders Sunday school
class and prayer group of the
United Methodist Church in her
home Monday, Feb. 12, from 2
until 4 in honor of Mrs. J. C.
Parnell of Houston, a former res-
ident of Albany. -
Mrs. Bland Turner read a
chapter from the Bible and then
gave a talk on it. Mrs. J, N.
Crudgington was hostess for the
recreation. Mrs. M. W. Dye was
the overall winner. An hour of
visiting followed.
Mrs. J. B. Lipscomb read an
article to the group entitled "My
Church."
Mrs. J. B. Lipscomb offered
the prayer for the group.
Refreshments of tuna fish
sandwiches, cheese twists, mints,
cookies, coffee and tomato juice
were served to Mmes. J. B.
Lipscomb, Amy Bushnell,
W. S. Dye, John Arther, Carl
Etchieson, M. W. Dye, J. N.
Crudgington, K. L. Fenner, Bob
Foster, Joe Herron, Bland Tur-
ner, Marvin Pettit, J. C. Parnell
and the hostess, Mrs. Tom
Brown.
Gleaners Class Has
Febiuary Social
February social meeting for
the Gleaners class was a cover-
ed dish luncheon on first Friday
in the fellowship hall of First
Methodist Church.
Mrs. G. M. Neff gave the in-
vocation.
Following the luncheon was a
business period with Mrs. C. E.
Franks presiding.
Others present were Mmes. C.
L. Gladden, R. C. Faster, Mar-
vin Pettit, John McGaughey, Joe
Herron, J. L. Douglas, Tom
Moseley, Clyde Suther, J, D.
Arther, Minnie Liles, Tilden
Armstrong and M. E. Lewallen.

bock were week-end guests of
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross

Ginger Jones Wins
Garden Club
Speech Contest
, The Albany Garden Club met
at 2:00 p. m. Feb. 15 at the
home of Mrs. L. B. Gibson. Co-
hostesses were Mrs. Delbert
Waller, Mrs. Stanley Ivy and
Mrs. Reaves Hickman.
Mrs. W. V. Wheeler, president,
presided over the business meet-
ing.
Mrs. Buddy R. Dulin, chair-
man of the Speech Conservation
contest sponsored recently at the
high school, introduced Ginger
Jones who presented her winning
speech on "Water—Wisdom or
Waste?"
Miss Jones, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Benton Jones is a
sophomore honor student at Al-
bany High School. She is active
in tennis, girls' basketball and
4-H Club work. She is a mem-
ber of the pep squad and was
FFA sweetheart last year. Miss
Jones was presented a $15.00
check—the first place prize in
the local contest—by the Garden
Club and is now eligible for the
district contest to be held in
Breckenridge April 4.
Mrs. C E. Jacobs presented a
most interesting and informative
program on shells. She told hew
to collect, classify and display
them. She had some on display
for the meeting. She also re-
counted how they have been used
through the years in Christianity,
architecture, art, and as a med-
ium of exchange.
An arrangement of bronze
mums centered the table in the
dining room. An arrangement
of fern and pink carnations in a
shell formed the centerpiece for
the table in the den.
Refreshments were served to

P. T. Sears, Frank Andrews,
Burl Baker, Tommy Baker, John
Earl Beall, Buddy Dulln, L. B.
Gibson, Reaves Hickman, Bert
Iverson, Stanley Ivy, C. E. Ja-

Prayer Group Meeta
The Prayer Group of the Unit-
ed Methodist Church met at
10:30 a. m. on Feb. 14 at the
church.
Mrs. W. C. Dye gave the open-
ing prayer.
A song service was held, fpl-
loweri by a short business meet-
ing. Four cards had been sent
and 12 visits to the sick have
been made.
Mrs. J. N. Crudgington brought
the lesson. The topic was
"Why Do Christians Believe
That They Will Live Forever "
The group was dismissed by all
repeating the Lord's Prayer.
A luncheon of chicken and
dressing was served to the fol-
lowing members: Mmes. W. T.
Brown, Bob Foster, W. S. Dye,
J. N. Crudgington, M. W. Dye,
John Arther, Hassie Herron,
Carl Etchieson, Marvin Pettit,
and Pres Pippin, and Dr. Til-
den Armstrong.

Mrs. W. R. Whitworth's visit-
ors were Mr. and Mrs. Dick
Cole, Ricky and Sherie, of Abi-
lene and Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Bishop and Mrs. Bob Whitworth

Roy Jean Britt of Arkansas
visited his grandmother, Mrs.
Burchard.
Mrs. F. B. Townsend and the
children in grades 4-6 of the
Church of Christ brought a song
program to the home.
Mr. and Mrs. Jay Fergson,
Miss Fergson were visitors of
his sister, Wilma Fergson. They
also visited Mrs. Moore.
Mrs. Hollowell had as guests
her daughter and family, Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Fambro and Alex
of Mingus.
Mrs. Virgie Davis, Mrs. Tres-
sie Lucas and Mrs. T. K. Mar-
shall, all of Merkel, and the
Clyde Irwins of Waco were vis-
itors of Mrs. Spann.
Mrs. Jerome H. Codington of
Midland was a visitor in the
home.
