Meet In Olney
City Secretary George Mocek
and Chamber of Comrrferce Sec-
retary Louis Snyder wore In Olney
Wednesday to attend a meeting of
the North Texas and Southern
Oklahoma Area Development As-
sociation. The association met at 10
a.m. in the City Hall, with Mayor
Lloyd C. Thomas, of Wichita Falls,
as chairman.
Snyder prepared the following
report of the meeting:
To give seme background of this
organization, it is comprised of 25
oounties of North Texas and
Southern Oklahoma. Its aim or
object is to cooperate together to
piromote and develop industry,
transportation, agriculture, water,
and other such projects to the mu-
tual benefits of the participating
ntemibers. The organization consists
of four committees, being, Trans-
portation, Agriculture, Water and
Industry. The transportation Com-
mittee members are: Wilson Car-
roll, Grandfield, Okla., Chairman,
R. N. Lunn, V-ChainrJan, Frank
B. Underwood, Bowie, J. M. Simp-
son, Holllday, and Jess Burba,
Snyder, Oklahoma.
Agriculture Committee: J. W.
Daylen, Temple, Okla., Chairman,
R. P. Reagan, Burkburne t, Texas,
V-Chairman, W. A. Els.nor, Tip-
ton, Oklahoma, J. W. Traxler, Ver-
non .Texas, and Ed Brocett, Gould,
Oklahoma.
Water Committee: S. B. Harbi-
son, Graham, Texas, Chairman,
Jack Coleman, Waurlka, Okla-
homa, V-Chairman, Ernest Birk,
Iowa Park, Texas, John Grow,
Electra, Texas and Robert G. Wil-
son, Walters, Oklahoma.
Industry Committee: Sid Gaines,
Wichita Falls, Texas, Chairman,
D. L. Wigingtan, Lawton, Okla-
homa, V-Chairman, B. F. Machen,
Mollis, Oklahoma, T. J. Burns,
Frederick, Oklahoma, and Joe
Janeway, Ncona, Texas.
The meeting in Olney consisted
of further organization and each
of the commit tee chairrrfcn gave
their reports in the form ol' re-
commendations for their respec-
tive committees to work 011 and
suggestions were made from1 the
floor.
The primary problem confront-
ing all the communities represent-
ed, consisting of some 40 nfcmbers,
was at the present tim'e, transpor-
tation. One proposal as put forth
by Mr. R. N. Lunn of Olney, was
a railway express truck line from
Graham to Newcastle to Elbert to
Throckmorton, to Seymour to
Olney to Archer City to Mankins
to Holliday and thence to Wichita
Falls. Motion was made and car- 1
ried that this proposal be acted 1
upon and a report of progress be
made to the association at their 1
next meetling. Other transporta-!
tion problems will be acted upon
as they conJe up. Each member of
the association was sent a ques-
t ion a ire regarding their personal
problems along this line as soon
as they are all in, steps will be
taken to correct these conditions.
The agriculture report, as given
by Mr. J. W. iDawlen of Temple,
Oklahoma, was in the form of a
talk based on the relationship of
agriculture and industry and busi-
ness. Mr. Dawlen expressed the1
opinion that there was a rift be- I
tween rural and city dwellers that I
should be remedied as early as I
possible. It was his contention that
a farmer is at the present time,
as much as a businessman as the
man in town. He has a good point
when you consider that $50,000 is
considered a minimum investment
to set up a farming operation. He
also touched briefly on the water
problem confronting the far n tor
and municipality. Since the cities
■receive first consideration when it
comes to water, he thought there
should be some system worked out
tor both.
The Water Committee report
was rather brief due to the illness
of Chairman S. B. Harbison of
Graham". Also there was some
doubt in Mr. Harbison's committee
as to just what stops to take at
this time without further study
into the problem.
The Industry Committee report-
ed plans for a brocure covering
the entire area, devoting a page to
each community and six pages
covering the area in general. Mr.
Siel Gaines also set forth plans
to nfake appointments with the
big manufacturing plants in the
North and East to invite them to
look over prospects in the area.
All in all It was a very interest-
ing meeting and this organization
shows great possibilities for de-
velping this area.
