The law provides that the s 1 .m • fund may be
loaned to approved depositories hi t<r<l in pub-
lie school bonds.
The Public School fund of i i.iylor county was
loaned in 1910 to a Seymour bank at , 1per
cent interest and in 1911 at £ i 'percent interest.
The sinking fund and the interest thereon coin-
pounded annually of this bond i; sue at live pet-
cent interest, will, in twenty-two years amount to
$101,076.01. At the end of twenty-two years the
One Hundred Thousand dollar bond issue could
be retired and have #1,076,01 lift,
The proceeds from this bond issue will be spent
on the public reads of Hay lot county under the
direction of the Commissioners Court together with
an advisory committee to be composed of eight
members, two of whom shall be selceted by the citi-
sens of each of the four Commissioner's precincts.
No precinct can get. more than its proportionate
share as the law provides that this fund must be
apportioned pro rata according to the taxable valu-
ations of the various precincts, and the commis-
sioners of our county have agreed that this shall
be done and that tlie money hall be so appor-
tioned.
Baylor county has four c6mmi! sioiiers, three
of whom reside i:t the rural precinct'., and they
having the balance of power 111.-13 «-a:-.ily safeguard
the people's interest at large.
At present Baylor rounty lc\i. s fifteen cents
tax upon the 5100 valuation for maintenance
of public roads. To take care of this bond issue
an increase of nine cents upon the One Hundred
dollars, or 90 cents on the One Thousand dollars
valuation will be required. (Seestatement in Bay-
lor County Banner under date of Oct. 13th, by
Judge Nat O. Mitchell,)
I lie constitution of the State of Texas provides
that there cannot be levied more than 25 cents on
the 5100 valuation for road purposes (meaning
bonds, interest and maintenance.)
()nly Baylor county labor will be employed in
the construction of these roads.
I hesc bonds may be sold and the money ready
for ust.- within lour to six weeks after the election,
Saturday, December i(>th.
1 wo-fiifths of the taxes of Baylor county arc
paid by Non-Residents.
(»ood roads mean better schools, better churches,
better improvements of all kinds.
I he highest priced lands in Texas are in Kllis
and W illiamson counties, and those two counties
have spent more mone> for road improvement than
any other counties in the state.
(rood roads cannot be built without a bond
issue neither can court houses. The bridge
across the Brazos river at Seymour was built by a
bond is,sin—who would vote to tear ildowti to save
the small annual tax? There are people who will
tell you that good roads can be built merely by the
taxes every year and that a bond issue upon which
you pay interest is unnecessary and a waste—this
statement is false and misleading. Should we
wait until Baylor county accumulates a sufficient
fund to build her public thoroughfares our child-
ren's children would not live long enough to de-
rive benefit therefrom.
'I here is not a county or precinct in Texas that
lias ever voted a good roads bond that has failed to
carry a second election for road bonds.
All qualified voters who have paid any tax
other than a poll tax, or have any property (even
a watch) subject to taxation 011 January tst, iqia,
can vote iii this road bond election. The law pro-
vides that a road bond issue must receive two-
thirds of all votes cast, which means that all men
favoring this bond issue must go to the polls and
vote in order to carry it.

This is Good Logic
I he articles we mention, as well as many others, in our store,
may lack some of the fascination of the knick-knack and bric-a-brace
found at other stores, but for real benefit and permanent enjoyment
have them all beaten to a whisper. The little novelties may fascinate
and thrill for a short while, but after Christmas and the holidays are
over, what have you got for your spent moneys You may have had
more or less momentary pleasure, but it doesnt cut much ice in the
long run and it's mighty difficult to remember after it s over.
When y<Ki 1 buy en article from our Store yon have something of permanent value—something
that give* you the smile that won't come off something that will cause you to remember the giver.
Come to our htnrc and we will sell you something that will givr permanent pleasure and knowl-
edge of i* value wiii emain long after its price is forgotten.
