Now that our new railroad is
actually building into tuwn it
seems that there is less news
than ever about it. For one
thing, the weather has been so
muddy and cold recently that
little work has been done.
It seems, too, that there is
considerable uncertainty as to
plans. It is not yet certain where
the road will go after leaving
here. A route by way of Knox
City is spoken of now. Also,
the right of way through this
town has not yet been called for.
It is believed that this will be
settled in a few days and work
will begin on the grade leading
into town. With good weather
developments will proceed rapid-
ly.
Card of Thanks.
We wish through the county
paper to express our heart felt
thanks to the good people of the
surrounding communities for
their never tiring help given our
husband and father during his
last illness and death. May
God's richest blessings rest on
you all .is our prayer.

Cotton.
For the past two weeks not
much cotton has come in. Some-
thing like 5,500 bales have been
weighed at the two yards. The
National Ginners "report came
out Wednesday and gave 8,878-
.000 bales ginned to Dec. 1st.
The market went up about 15
points on the report and is up 10
more points Thursday, making
14.31 for middling and 14.56 for
good middling.

To Our Customers.
In retiring from the grocery
business we wish to express to
those who afforded us such a
liberal patronage our appreciation
of their trade. You made possi-
ble for us the success we have
had. It is our hope that we may
retain all of you and secure many
others as customers of our meat
market business. We still de-
liver, but must ask that you still
give us your orders for dinner
by nine o'clock and supper orders
by four o'clock.
Yours for Right Treatment,

C. D. Allen returned Monday

is, "Is it the correct thing?"

The Stewart Lecture.
Ti ose who failed to hear Oliver
'W. Stewart of Chicago on the
evening of Dec. 1 missed one of
the best things that has ever
come to this town. The school
auditorium was reasonable well
filled, but it ought to have been
overflowing. A number heard
him on the street the next after-
noon.'
Mr. Stewart, as a prohibition
lecturer, is in a class to himself.
Fearly all lecturers of this kind
rely mainly on sentiment Mr.
Stewart did not. He took up the
liquor question from a business
standpoint and showed how it
was the worst business policy
imaginable. He showed how
the money that goes to pay li-
cences is not a pick up, but that
it comes at last out of the pockets
of those who need it the worst
for something else. The economic
loss, too, from inefficiency and
death caused by drunkeness has
no gaih to offset it Mr. Stewart

Dr. C. L. McCullum of Mason,
Texas, an old friend of Dr.
Morrow of this place, was here
this week looking over our coun
try and decided that this was a
good place for him to locate.
Accordingly when he left Tues-
day he instructed Dr. Morrow to
buy him a lot, upon which he
expects to erect a residence in
the near future. Watch Seymour
grow.
The Reason
Britain sells so many clothes-
he has the right kind at the right
price.
Dr. Morrow, whose son recent-
ly bought the Novelty Store, has
bought two lots from W. E.
England for a consideration of
$400 and is now drawing up plans
for about a fourteen room resi-
dence. Dr. Morrow is another
who believes that Seymour is
one of the coming cities of the
West and is not afraid to put his
money down here.

Pierce Acquitted.
H. Clay Pierce was acquitted
Tuesday at Austin of his crime
of false swearing. The only
evidence against him was his
own testimony in a trust case
in ■ Missouri which, according to
the Constitution, could not be
used as evidence against him.
The Waters-Pierce Oil Co. prop-
erty was sold for about $1,500,-
000, a personal friend of Pierce
buying it in, which virtually
means Pierce himself.

The past week we have had
winter right. Very little pre-
cipitation has accompanied Ale
cold, though a little snow fell
Wednesday. The thermometer
here has registered as low as 15
above. On the plains they have
had zero weather. Thursday
dawns clear and bright with the
wind in the east

Turning The Money.
Last Thursday and Friday C.
E. Lakey bought 3,197 bales of
cotton. Of this 1505 bales were
bought in towns on the Wichita
Valley, 785 in towns on the Texas
Central and 932 in towns on the
Orient. A total of $235,000 was
turned foose to make this portion
of the country feel good for a
couple of days. Keep at it Lakey.

A. L. Cozby, who has lived the
past year on Raymond Plants'
place west of town, left Wednes-
day with his family for Lewis-
ville. The move is made under
protest, but the doctors say Mr.
Cozby must undergo an operation
for appendicitis and he wants to
be at his father's When that is
done. He says he may be back

luck to him.
