I Vote Catholic
DO YOU HAPPEN to know
he political affiliation of some
j of your Catholic friends Some
what divided arent they Joe
Is a confirmed Democrat so Is
Charlie Come to think of it so
is Mrs Brown But Bills a Republican
and so Is Nellie And
believe it or not Bob Jones Is a
Republican but his wife is a
Democrat Evidently Catholics
dont always follow strict party
lines even In the same family
Furthermore Catholics dont always
vote for Catholics Take that
last clectiin wlion Jerry a Catholic
was running for County Superintendent
Bll votrjd for him but
his wife cast her ballot for his son
Catholic opponent Why the lack
if uniformity
It jist goes to show that the Catholic
Church is not intcrfcrrlru
with politics The Pope is supreme
in religious matters but he doesnt
tell people for whom they can vote
Bishops and priests direct their
people in moral matters and questions
of belief but they dont recommend
the political party against
another Thats why you will find
the political advertisements of bot
Republicans and Democrats in
Catholic papers Thats why politics
never substitute for the work of
God in the Catholic pulpit
Catholics happen to belong to
one or other of the political organizations
for the same reason
as non Catholics Sometimes it is
just a question of principal sometimes
its plain prejudice sometimes
its a political job and so
The Rath Trail
on Its never because the Catholic
Church favors a party If Its true
that the Catholic Church alms at
taking over the government of
the United States then you would
think would you not that She
would have at least enough Intelligence
to begin the process by
influencing the people to vote

the trails ol Iho world 11 was unique

In the early lB70s the spasmodic
slaughter ol the bullalo boomed Into
big business with the discovery ol a

once greasy and unkempt men with
the vigor oi youthful meat eaters In
their veins and the light ol bold desire
In their eyes moved out on the frontiers
ol Kansas where the animals grew lat
oa the grass In millions They Jell upon
them and mowed them down They
staked their hides to dry on the ground
and hauled them to market at the new
rylounded Tillage called Dodge City
Their bunting grounds were never
static but shifted with the herd And
the herd as the millions ol noble
beasts were known periodically moved
with that strange wild Impulse that
makes migration north wllh the growth
ol grass In the spring and south belore
the slanting snows ol fall
Thousands ol men pushed Into the
bullalo rango Into that vast oxpanse
ol unsettled plain that sloped gontly
Into the sun lor hundreds ol miles between
the frontier of Kansas and Tort
Concho In Toxas Not r railroad crossed

But out of Dodgo City came Charlie
Rath In partnership with Lee and Reynolds
the great westorn army and
Indian traders His train ol freight
wagons was loaded with kegs ol powder
and whiskey bars ol lead and boxes
ol tobacco and other simple necessities
ol life that the hunters demanded He
pushed south In the lall ol 1876 to Tort
Elliott which had u l been built In the
Texas Panhandle There he was joined
by fifty to sixty hunters and with an
immense train ol wagons each drawn
with the usual six yoke ol steers they
