Rodeo Club Garners
Olympic Week Honors
Sponsored by the Senate
recreation committee and the
Student Activities office, object
of the Olympic Fair events was
to make the competition
between clubs and organizations
on campus stronger.
Nov. 5 began the first day of
competition with a "Crutches
Race" in front of the Student
Center. Phi Theta Kappa spon-
sored this event, and one boy
and girl from each club on cam-
pus participated.
Each entrant has a chance to
bring in beginning points for
their club or organization.
The Rodeo Club 'stole the
show' with both male and
female first places earning 12
points, six points each. Second
places were awarded to Eta Mu
Theta and Baptist Student
Union, each earning four points.
Third places went to Kappa Chi
and Los Vaqueros, earning two
points each.
Next event of the day was an
"Egg Throw" sponsored by
Kappa Chi in the CSC parking
lot. Object of the event was to
see which team could throw the
egg the farthest without it
breaking.
The three-legged "Sack
Race" in front of the Museum
was next on the agenda, spon-
sored by the Baptist Student
Union. Again a boy-giri team
was taken from each club and
Participated in the event by
sticking one of each leg in a
burlap sack and racing together
to the finish line.
First place for this event went
t° the Baptist Student Union,
winning 6 points. Second place
four points, and third place went
to two-point winner Kappa Chi.
Hmmm...what happened to the
Rodeo Club?
Only event held Wednesday
was the 12:30 p.m. "Wagon
Race" sponsored by the Rodeo
Club. The race was held in front
of the Student Center, and re-
quirements for the race were as
follows: 1 boy - must weigh at
least 150 pounds and 1 girl - must
weigh no more than 125 pounds.
Anyway, Rodeo Club returned
to the competition wining a
four-point second place behind
first-place winners Los Va-
queros. Third place went to Phi
Theta Kappa.
Beginning Thursday competi-
tion was the "Pole Climb"
sponsored by Eta Mu Theta in
front of the Student Center. Two
boys from each club were in-
vited to participate in the ac-
tion.
Capturing the All-Star first-
place position was Eta Mu
Theta and their telephone pole
brigade. Phi Theta Kappa pulled
in a four-point second place and
Los Vaqueros won the two-point
third place position.
Last, but not least, was the big
"Tug-O-War" meet in the gym.
Three boy-girl teams tugged for
the winning place and coming in
first was none other than the
Rodeo Club, reviving their usual
first-place status and receiving
six points for their club.
T.S.E.A. finally put their two
cents on the board with a
second-place four-point win, and
Kappa Chi will hold its annual
fall banquet November 23 at
7:30 p.m. in the CSC building.
Rex Kyker, professor of com-
munication at Abilene Christian
College, will be guest speaker.
Kappa Chi officers and other
club members will be formally
installed. Entertainment for the
evening will be provided by The
Brazos, a musical group from
ACC.
Tickets for the catered occa-
sion may be purchased for $3
from club president Jeff Box,
vice-president Sue Guisto, or
any other club member, or in
the CSC building. November 20
is the tentative deadline for
ticket sales.
Dress will be casual,
preferably Sunday attire.
Everyone is invited to attend.
Those still interested in par-
ticipating in the CSC ping-pong
tournament, sponsored by Kap-
pa Chi, may still register in the
CSC. Play began Nov. 4 and is
expected to run another two or
three weeks.
Kappa Chi for their efforts.
It can be reported that Olym-
pic Week earned the goal of
strengthening campus competi-
tion. Rodeo Club raced by their
competitors with an overall
first place of 28 points. Los Va-
queros came in second with 14
overall points, and EMT was
close in third place with 12
points.
BSU and PTK tied for fourth
place with 10 points each, and
Kappa Chi and T.S.E.A. came in
fifth and sixth with six and four
points, respectively.
The halloween party in the
CSC, sponsored by Kappa Chi,
was reported to be a "great
success." President Jeff Box
would like to express his
gratitude to "helpful" members
and all who attended. "It took a,
lot of sweat, blood, and praising
the Lord," Box reported.
