Jack Milchanowsk
Photographer CTAA
artist of the month
Jack Milchanowski, pho-
tographer from Sunset, was
selected as the Chisholm
Trail Art Association's
Artist of the Month for
October.
His captivating photo-
graph of a grizzled cowboy
entitled "Contemplation" is
one of a series of photo-
graphs taken of cowboys
both posed and in
action. This photograph has
been printed on metallic
photographic paper, enhanc-
ing its unique appeal.
Jack has been a member
of the CTAA since 2007,

River - most likely belong-
ing to French traders who
had paddled up the Red
River from New Orleans,
then a French settlement.
The significance of this
particular battle was that it
stopped cold Spanish colo-
nization of the North Texas
frontier. The battle was a
great victory for the Avaya
Wichita people that routed a
supposedly superior military
force to shame.
In honor of the people
who lived in this area and in
memory of this great battle,
the Tails N Trails Museum
of Nocona and the Wichita
and Affiliated Tribes will
host a day of celebration,
ceremony and observance of
the Taovaya Wichita culture
on Saturday Nov. 5th at
noon. The event will be held
at the Spanish Fort area
located just north of Nocona
and Saint Jo.
There will be stories
about the Wichita culture
and the so-called "Spanish
Fort" as well as demonstra-
tions about the rituals, songs
and dances of the Wichita
people. Speakers will thrill
us with the history and tales
of the period and the Wichita
tribal representatives will
enthuse those present with
their dress and dance.
A portion of the ceremo-
ny will be a sacred prayer for
those spirits that have moved
across the land.

Today's concept of
"wellness," or preventive
medicine can be traced back
to ancient China where a
form of reverse advertising
was employed to keep
physicians motivated. When
a doctor's patient died, a
special lantern was hung
outside the doctor's house.
The number of lanterns on
display was an indication of
the healer's lack of ability.
Doctor's in ancient China
believe that it was their job
to prevent disease. They
were paid when their
patients were kept well, and
not when they were sick.
And if a patient did get sick,
the doctor would often pay
the patient for his loss of
health.
Interesting, isn't it?
