The Nocona Indians put
on an offensive show in the
first round of the Nokona
Athletic Goods Tournament
last week but dropped their
second and third round
matches.
The Bowie Jackrabbits
won the tournament down-
ing City View 17-4 in the
championship game while
Gainesville took third place
defeating the host Indians.
Behind the pitching of
Dylan Crow, who refused to
let miscues by his defense
bother him, the Indians
rolled over Callisburg 11-2
in the opening round of the
tournament. Crow pitched a
completing game striking
out five while allowing no
hits and no earned runs.
Jeff Mclnnish and Justin
Killen went a combined 4 for
7, scoring five runs and driv-
ing in two to lead the Indian
offense.
Joseph Storey broke open
a tight 3-1 game in the sec-
ond with a three run home
run as Nocona's offense then
pecked away at the Wildcats.
Mclnnish finished the
game 2 for 4 with 3 runs.
Killen went 2 for 3 scoring
twice and driving in two
more.
"We need to make routine
plays on a consistent basis
and learn when to take
chances," observed Coach
Sam Fluty. "We will get
there. I expect us to improve,
and the kids are making the
effort to get better in the
early part of the season."
District foe City View

hammered the Indians 10-2
on Friday as the Mustangs
jumped all over five Indian
errors to give the tribe their
first loss of the season.
Jeff Mclnnish was tagged
with the loss despite giving
up just three hits, no walks,
striking out five and allow-
ing just one earned run in
four innings.
Mclnnish and Dylan
Crow each went 1 for 2 at the
plate while Austin Brito was
1 for 1. Brito and Mclnnish
scored the Indians runs.
The Indians squared off
against the Gainesville
Leopards on Saturday falling
8-3 in a battle for third place
in the tournament.
The Leopards held the
tribe to just two hits - a sin-
gle by Jeff Mclnnish (1 for 2,
2 runs) and an RBI double
by Justin Killen (1 for 3).
In a tightly played contest
the Leopards took advantage
of a pair of errors in the top
of the sixth inning to score
four runs and broke open a
tight, well played contest
between the teams.
Dylan Crow went three
and a third innings allowing
three hits, one earned run
and striking out one.

and a third innings striking
out seven, walking six and
