Beads, bangles, bobbles and babes, the Mardi Gras Possum float saved the best decroa-
tion for those riding upon it — the Possum Ladies.
Catholic Charities
Diocese of Fort Worth, Inc.
is proud to announce a part-
nership with United Way to
provide free tax preparation
to qualifying families
throughout our community.
This service is part of United
Way's Financial Stability
efforts to assist families in
becoming self-sufficient.
The VITA Program will run
from January 15th thru April
14 th in Young and
Montague Counties.
Site Locations and Hours:
First Free Will Baptist
Church, 505 Strong St.,
Bowie, Mondays and
Thursdays 4-8 p.m.
Catholic Charities is
involved in free tax prepara-
tion because the program
aligns with our efforts to
reduce poverty in Tarrant
County. By providing high
quality tax preparation we
are able to help families keep
the money they have earned
throughout the year and
invest it back into their
households. Often for a low
income family, a tax return
can be the largest amount of
money received at one time
and can help move that fam-
ily out of poverty. We want
to save families in our com-
munity the $300-$500 they
spend to get a simple tax

quality tax preparation serv-
ices at sites throughout
Tarrant County.
VITA focuses on assist-
ing low income tax-payers
receive the beneficial tax
credits that can help increase
their family's income
through their tax return. One
veiy specific way is thru the
Earned Income Tax Credit
(EITC) which is a tax credit
for low income working
families. EITC lifts more
than 450,000 Texans out of
poverty each year (CPPP),
but it is estimated that up to
20 percent of families eligi-
ble for this credit do not
receive what they have
earned. It is also estimated
that between $80 and $90
million in tax credits have
gone unclaimed in Tarrant
County
