di
owery will not seek another
term as 9' tli D istrict Judge
Roger Towery, Judge of
the 97th District Court, has
announced he will not seek
re-election in 2012.
"I have enjoyed my serv-
ice to the 97th District since
1990 and decided a few
months ago that at the end of
this term I will have served
long enough. The support
which I have been given
over the years from the vot-
ers in Archer, Clay and
Montague counties is and
has been greatly appreciat-
ed," stated Judge Towery.
"This district has been
fortunate during this time to
have had two excellent
District Attorneys, Tim Cole
and Jack McGaughey, who
were able to evaluate cases
and present them in court as
competently as any prosecu-
tors in North Texas," he said.
"The attorneys in Archer,
Clay and Montague counties
have also been able to work
together and communicate to
bring cases to conclusion.
"The other office holders
and employees of the court-
houses in Archer City,
Henrietta and Montague
have been cooperative and
pleasant to work with.
"I have attempted to rep-
resent this area well in my
interactions with other
judges throughout the state
and hope my successor who-
ever he or she is will carry
on that tradition. Also to be
thanked for their service to
the 97th District are those
who have served as jurors,
grand jurors and grand jury
commissioners over the last
22 years.
"And, it would be remiss
of me to not mention the
invaluable contributions of
Linda Burleson, the 97th
District Court coordinator,
and the court reporters who
served during the last 22
years, the late Ray Shields,
Rick Norton and my current
court reporter, Betty
Sanders.
"And finally, thanks to
my wife, Ann, who has been
so supportive of my service
to this district," Judge
Towery concluded.
In addition to serving as
judge of the 97th District
Court, Judge Towery has
served on the Board of
Directors of the Judicial
Section of the State Bar of
Texas and as Chair of the
Board of Directors of the
Texas Center for the
Judiciary, the statewide
organization providing edu-
cation to appellate justices,
district judges and county
court at law judges through-
out the State of Texas.
