Tiger sacking . . .

Nocona's Caiden Fenoglio (66) claims the first of two consecutive quarterback sacks Friday night as the Indian
defense held strong until the offense starting running throught he Tigers for a 35-14 District 3-AA victory.
Tribe bags Tigers 35-14
By Tracy R. Mesler
JACKSBORO - Once the
Indians quite shooting them-
selves in the foot with penal-
ties and turnovers, the tribe
did what it set out to do -
dominate the Jacksboro
Tigers' homecoming contest
and set up a play-off show
down with Henrietta and
City View to end the season.
Repeatedly the Indians
appeared to be about to put a
strangle hold on the Tigers.
And repeatedly they did
something to give the kitty
cats some life.
Head Coach Brad Keck
served quick notice that he
was playing for real. Nocona
went for it on fourth and on
at their own 38 - and failed.
But Tyler Gay sacked the
Tiger QB at the Indian 14 on
fourth down to close down
the drive.
The Indians immediate
ripped off gains of 9, 34 and
20 yards to move deep into
Tiger territory. But a Hayden
Hill pass skipped off his
receiver's hands and into the
Tigers' hands to thwart that
solid effort.
The defense again held,
and though Tate Fenoglio
had to cover his muffed punt
to keep possession of the
ball, the Indians needed just
five plays to cover 44 yards
when Fenoglio slashed in
from the 11 and Hill ran in
the two point conversion.
After the Tigers buried
the Indians at their 20,
Fenoglio exploded 73 yards
to the Jacksboro 7 to set up
Hill's 7 yard run while
Fenoglio caught his breath
on the side lines. Tyler
Leon's kick sailed wide left
leaving Nocona ahead 14-0.
Jacksboro then moved 61
yards in 8 plays scoring on a
nifty 24 yard pass from Kirk
Weldon to Jared Landon.
Consecutive holding
penalties on the kickoff
return and on first play — to
negate Hill's 27 yard run —
stalled Nocona's next drive.
With the opening drive of
the second half, the Indians
threatened again. And again
they shot themselves in the
foot. Fenoglio picked up 30
and 14 yards to move to the
Tiger 20 before Bryce
Dingier was separated from
the ball at the Jacksboro 10.
The defense held when
Caiden Fenoglio had a pair
of QB sacks for 18 yards in
losses forcing a punt from
the Tiger 12, but Tate
Fenoglio muffed the punt
return and the Tigers recov-
ered at their 34.
On first and 10 at the
Indian 39, Landon was
flushed from the pocket and
found a wide open Travis
Lane on the Indians' side-
lines. With some nifty
moves and timely blocks he
went across the field to
score. The kick tied the con-
test at 14-all with 4:49 to go

The Indians' special teams were that, special, as they
forced a fumble on a kickoff to set up the game's final
score Friday night against Jacksboro.

Playoffs at stake or
■uliaiis. ] earcats
By Tracy R. Mesler
The stakes could not be
bigger Friday when the
Nocona Indians host arch
rival Henrietta in the next to
last regular season game of
the season as the play-off
picture is suddenly clearing.
And while the play-off
possibilities include poten-
tial two-ties for first and
third or a three-way tie for
second and third, for Head
Coach Brad Keek's Indians
the message is simple and
succinct - win both of their
remaining games, and the
Indians will be no worse
than the district runners-up
and at best possibly co-dis-
trict champions.
Lose Friday to the
Bearcats, and the tribe will
face a "must win" road test
at Wichita Falls City View in
the season finale.
In fact each of the four
teams in the hunt for three
play-off berths control their
own destinies. Keep winning
and they are in. Lose any-
where along the way and
things could get dicey in a
hurry.
After Henrietta upset
Wichita Falls City View 37-
28, and Nocona won Friday
night the three teams are tied
for second place in district at
2-1, one game behind district
leader Holliday.
CDooor IF mj jm
Alvord and Jacksboro are
left to play the role of spoiler
- and should either team pull
an upset in the final two
weeks, the playoff picture
gets really cloudy.
But barring the unexpect-
ed, there are four teams
fighting for three play-off
berths from District 3AA,
and they meet each other
Friday night.
While Henrietta travels to
Nocona, City View travels to
Holliday. For the two win-
ners, their victories will vir-
tually lock up a play-off
berth. For the losers, it could
come down to a lose-and-go-
home scenario for the final
game of the regular season.
There are a number of
possibilities for the play-off
picture depending on the

The Nocona junior varsity
fell short in their final con-
test of the season Thursday
night losing to the Jacksboro
JV 38-20.

yards with a Christian Ibarra
pass to post Nocona's first
score of the night.
Ibarra scored on runs of
34 and 6 yards and ran in a
two point conversion for the
Indians.
Evan Embry and Tristan
Willard each recovered fum-
bles, but the Indian defense
was unable to hold off the
Tigers' attack.
The JV ended the season
with a 2-6 record, 0-3 in
District 5-AA play.
