With his fellow bullriders watching closely, this unseated cowboy avoids a head butt and attempt-
ed goring from the bull that had just tossed him Saturday night the Nocona Bull Fest.
Despite emails to the contrary, there s
no homestead issue on Saturday s ballot
City Secretary Revell
Hardison was shaking her head
Monday. For the third, or was it
fourth time, she had just tried to
explain why voters in
Saturday's Local Election
would not be voting on extend-
ing the homestead property tax
exemption to persons over 65.
"It's because we voted on
that last year!" she exclaimed,
after visiting with the incredu-
lous voter who demanded to
know why they were not being
allowed to vote on such a criti-
cal, taxpayer-sensitive issue.
"Somebody sent the email
out again this year saying the
amendment was on the ballot,
and its spreading and now folks
are getting upset when it's not
on the ballot," she said late
Monday afternoon.
When the 79 th Texas
Legislature approved the school
tax roll-back, it forgot to extend
the Senior Citizen Homestead
Exemption to the rollback thus
necessitating last year's consti-
tutional amendment.
In 2007 Texas voters did vote
on a Constitutional Amendment
to extend the senior citizen
homestead exemption.
"But that was last year!" the
secretary said. "And it passed!"
Like many urban legends,
this is an email that won't die -
even though at the bottom it
states that the Local Election is
Saturday May 12.
The Local Election this year
is on Saturday, May 10.
So don't worry. Your home-
stead exemption has been
approved. And don't get upset at
the election officials Saturday
when it's not on the ballot.
