Baking family . . .
i
howdown showcases
skills of top oca cooks
— Phoro by Todd Peterson
To say theirs is a baking family would be an understatement as Tommy Yowell was the
overall winner of the Shebang Showdown; his wife, Suzanne, to his left, took second
place in Classic Celebration Cakes and second in adult fruit pies (her daughter Abby
Linn is shown holding the ribbon, and her mother, Gail Storey, won first in the adult
fruit pies.
Tommy Yowell took
Overall Winner in the 1st
Annual Shebang Showdown
baking contest held in con-
junction with the annual
fund raiser for the Tales 'N'
Trails Museum.
Yowell's made-from-
scratch pecan pie, complete
with Texas shaped crust, was
named overall champion by
a panel of judges including
two cooks from Le Cordon
Bleu School of Dallas.
In the youth division,
Bailey Ralls had the 1st
place Fruit Pie and Morgan
Dyer the 1st place Cake.
There were four adult
divisions. Gayle Storey's
fruit pie took first place over
her daughter Suzanne's.
Yowell's custard pie took
first place over the entry pre-
pared by Sherd Ramsey.
Becky McCracken took
first place in the
Fondant/Celebration Cakes
while Jenna Luedecke took
second place.
And Linda Holcomb's
entry too first place in the
Classic Celebration Cakes
with Suzanne Storey's tak-
ing second.
Chef Connie and Chef
Stacey then conducted two
workshop sessions for the
entry cooks and others. One
on using Fondant and the
other on making perfect pie
crust.
The entries were then
used as desserts for that
evening's Shebang dinner
and benefit auction with the
chefs from Le Cordon Bleu
serving the dinner guests.
