After receiving three-fourths of an inch of rain, it was a misty, almost foggy morning Monday in
Nocona.
Celebrate Texas History Month
AUSTIN — The spirit of
Texas is alive and well in March
as the state pays homage to its
vibrant past during Texas
History Month. Celebrating the
month of Texas' Independence,
the Texas Historical
Commission (THC) encourages
people to explore the state's
dynamic historic landscape.
Texas History Month honors
Texans who helped shape the
history of the state and acknowl-
edges significant historical
events.
Join in the fun at the Texas
Independence Day Parade,
Saturday, March 1 in Austin.
Sponsored by Celebrate Texas,
the parade commemorates the
adoption of the Texas
Declaration of Independence on
March 2, 1836, and the state's
subsequent recognition by the
United States as an independent
nation. Other events include a
5K fun run and a celebration in
the Capitol rotunda.
Celebrate Texas is a nonprof-
it corporation whose goal is to
encourage and promote the edu-
cation of the public about Texas
Independence Day and the his-
tory of the state and its people.
Another way to observe
Texas History Month is to plan
a spring break trip through the
Texas Independence Trail
Region. This heritage travel
region is a historic journey
through gripping battles and
memorable deeds as Texas

Help keep it beautiful
April cleanup scheduled set
Keep Nocona Beautiful
(KNB) has set up a tentative
schedule for the 2008 Spring
Cleanup for north Montague
County, according to Lindy
Ritchie, KNB president.
Saturday, April 5, is the 2008
"Don't Mess With Texas
Trashoff' promoted by the
Texas Department of
Transportation (TxDOT).
All "Adopt a Highway"
groups and volunteers are asked
to clean highways, roads,
streets, parks and waterways on
that date, if possible.
From April 5th through the
11th, the City of Nocona and
IESI will furnish large contain-
ers for household disposal under
the water tower at the City yard
on Willow Street. This gated
area will be staffed by members
of KNB, who will oversee the
disposal to see that no building
materials, brush or leaves, tires,
furniture, or hazardous materi-
als are dumped. Appliances and
metal will be directed to a local
area for disposal.
Hours the area will be open
are: 9-6 on Saturday, April 5, 1-
5 Sunday through Friday and 9-
5 on Saturday, April 11 or until
containers are filled.
A donation for disposal will
be requested, with funds ear-
marked for the stone "Welcome
to Nocona" marker to be con-
structed this year.
The week of April 12-19 is
set for area lake, waterways and
rural area cleanups and KNB
will be glad to work to promote
