Construction, funding updates set
for Museum's May 18th meeting
Fun Faces
The Downtown Park was filled with smiling fees as they enjoyed
the fun of the first Nocona Chamber of Commerce Cinco de
Mayo Fest.
With over $200,000 in cash
and pledges, the North Texas
Society of History and Culture
will hold its annual meeting at
6:30 p.m. Friday, May 18 in a
"meeting on the grounds" of the
Tales 'N Trails Museum to
update its members and donors
on completing the museum.
"We need your input, and
you are encouraged to be there
to hear plans for resuming con-
struction in the near future,"
said Board President Gary Don
King.
"People, like you, have col-
lectively contributed over
$100,000 to the building fund,"
King said in a letter mailed this
week to all Society members
and donors.
The Museum Board is poised
to start construction on putting
the building "in the dry," King
said adding, "We need your
input and solicit your support
for our plans of the resumption
of this project."
The contractors will be on
hand Friday to explain the plans
and projected expenses in get-
ting the building in the diy and
ready for the completion work.
Last June the Museum Board
kicked off a capital fund drive
that resulting in collecting
$169,540.50 in cash and pledges
to be applied towards complet-
ing the museum.
The meeting will serve as the
Society's annual meeting with a
short business session and elec-
tion of directors to be conduct-
ed.
"Please bring your lawn
chairs and join us for the meet-
ing," King asked.
"The Am on Carter
Foundation is now considering a
matching grant, dollar for dol-
lar, for donated money up to
$300,000," King observed. But
to secure major foundation
money, more help local involve-
ment will be necessary.
"As a community, we must
show our support to founda-
tions. Specifically, if we raise a
total of $300,000 and receive
the Amon Carter Foundation
grant of $300,000, every dollar
you give will be doubled!" he
stressed.
"I'm proud of what we've
accomplished together and I
