MONTAGUE - Getting
free stuff approved by the
Montague County
Commissioner's Court is
easy.
Getting something
approved that is out-side of
the annual budget cycle and
in excess of a departmental
budget is not so easy, as
Monday Sheriff Paul
Cunningham was sent back
to try and find a funding
source for his request for 12

new computers for his
office.
Before hitting the prover-
bial spending speed bump
Monday morning, Sheriff
Cunningham secured swift
approval from the court to
participate in a victim notifi-
cation software program,
which costs the county noth-
ing other than a signature to
participate.
The program will let vic-
tims of major crimes such as
murder and sexual assault
know when their assailants
are being released, or
changes in the status of their
case.
He also received quick
approval to try and secure a
Hummer from the Texas
1033 Surplus Property
Program, also at no charge to
the county.
The vehicle would be
capable of all weather travel.
That would allow his depart-
ment to rescue stranded
motorists during ice and
snow storms "without
bouncing patrol cars off the
guardrails", the sheriff told
the court, as well as being
able to traverse terrain not
suitable for a patrol car.
Additionally, the armored
military vehicle would pro-
vide protection should offi-
cers need it during incidents
involving shooting.
But when the sheriff
informed the court that the

Ilortoiis I hit building back
to fund Justin renovation

After multiple attempts
the Nocona City Council
received a "bid" on the old
Nocona Boot Company
warehouse that it could
accept Tuesday night.
Pete Horton, owner of
Peba Oil Co., donated the
building to the city in
November 2010.
Tuesday night, after dis-
cussing the terms of the two
bids, the city council
returned to open session and
accepted Horton's bid of
$200,000 "with the condi-
tion that the majority of the
purchase price be used
towards the improvements
of the Justin Building."
Councilman Steve
Tettleton's motion, which
passed unanimously, stipu-

MONTAGUE - The
Montague County Grand

Cunningham, 30, Monday
for the capital murder of his
