THE JERSEY CATTLE
SPECIAL
Alter having made the tour
through Southwest and Central
Texas with Texas Jersey Cattle
Club which consisted of
men from other states as well
as Texas who have nation1
and world wide reputations for
breoding feeding importing
and selling high class Jerseys
I naturally absorbed some ideas
ifrom these expesffanced men
as we wejro together on pullman
cars sixMuchtfi as well as being
nsSbejated together each
day in the big dairies creameries
and great Jersey herds
along the route and also bearing
public talks from the more
able speakers of the party each
day
I feel that I have through
this association found some
things to he true that may be
of interest to the people of
Swisher County especial y
those interested in breeding
better Jerseys
The first thing I call atten
tion to is that nil breeders
every where seem to recognize
a man as a good breeder only
when he is doing line breeding
jite of the big breeders wo
visited had not followed very
closely after line breeding and
the result was very easily rend
on his herd and lie is changing
his plans for the future I understandAnother thing I learned o
be true was that the eons and
grand sons of Combination
Premier are the most sought
for bulls of any I heard of on
this trip and where we found
them they were priced high
This should be some consolation
to the owner of the bulls
in circle No 1 in Swisher Com
tie bull that nike up that
circle are mostly mm or grand

CHURCH OF CHRIST TO
HOLD SERIES of MEETINGS
A series of meetings will oe
held at the Church of Chrrt
beginning next Saturday night
Brothers Alva Johnson and
Chas Wat kins of Petersburg
will conduct the services which
will last over two Lord h Day
sons of Combination Premier
I think the owner of those balls
could sell them at a big profit
in case they should want to
which of course they will not
In this circle it would secju is
the chance of a life time for a
man with moderate means to
do real constructive line breeding
which is not in reach of a
man with moderate means
where circles do not exist This
reminds me to say that I believe
the opportunities in Swish
cr county are equal to any inmost
every respect There was
one section in which I was interested
Southwest Texas
but after seeing a good portion
of that territory I returned
satisfied to remain at Tulia
Even though wo found some of
the finest people down there
we have had the privilege to
meet we were guests of the
breeder or of the Chamber
of Commerce or both each day
and I do not think we could
have been treated nicer or fed
better I only hope that we can
through cooperation extenl
the courtesies to visitors that
were extended to us at each
place where we were guests
These places were San Antonio
Taft Kingsville Falfnrias anl
Temple Texas We were shown
through everything of mterest
at each of these cities

THE STORY OF THE STORM
By Mrs T L Brown
Pis night the camp in < sleeps
Tho moonlight over all silently creeps
The stars from heaven give silvery light
To brighten the scene of this stilly night
Hark the dawn breaks and music fills the air
Tis MORNING muhic echoing everywhere
Reveille is sounded by the bugles all is astir
The birds join the cboruh their wings in a whir
The day brightens ASSEMBLY CALL is heard
Clear comes the call like the notes of a bird j
The soldiers inarch to the music of Over There
No one asks why how or where
They pass through a city fair to see
Tim church bells ring My Country Tis of Thee
The Girl 1 Left Behind Me is plnycd by fife drum
The soldiers pass and the tune they hum
Again the army camps in Gods green Inn
Away from the citys turmoil and din
Hark Hallelujah Chorus is now on the air
Beauty and grandeur is found everywhere
The Long Long Trail is sung in a joyous way
Carry Me Back To Old Virginia indeed you may
But the song Little Grey Home in tho West
Is loved by all and sung as the best
But a storm comes the clouds nro rushing by
The skies darken the thunders seem to defy
List the sad strains of n Funeral March you hear
Quickly you wipe ffvvay the falling tear
A Buddie is borne to his last resting place
Tho lightnings flash oer his peaceful face
The rain falls in torrents the thunders roll
As if to mourn his going and peace extol
The storm passes and darkness covers all
Thoughts of loved ones and Dear Old Pal recall
Stars appear and we hear the bugle sound
Ah tis Taps the silence is now profound
The boys lie sleeping Oh where will they roamt
And we know they arc dreaming of home sweet homo
Yes Home Sweet Ilome in a low refrain
They hear in their dreams again and again
