BIOLOGY 105. GENERAL BOTANY. The principles of biology as
applied to plants. An introductory study of the morphology and
physiology of plants during growth and reproduction, with a consideration
of the classification and relationships of the plant groups.
Designed for the biology major or minor.
Prerequisite: None. Four semester hours.
BIOLOGY 106. GENERAL ZOOLOGY. The principles of biology as
applied to animals. An introductory study of the morphology,
physiology and classification of the animal groups. Designed for
the biology major or minor.
Prerequisite: None. Four semester hours.
BIOLOGY 301. GENERAL BACTERIOLOGY. An introduction to the
structure, function and economic relationships of bacteria and
related organisms.
Prerequisite: Biology 105 or 100b; Chemistry 304 recommended.
Four semester hours.
BIOLOGY 302. COMPARATIVE VERTEBRATE ANATOMY. A comparative
study of the origin and development of vertebrate organ
systems, and dissections of representative types. Three class periods
and two laboratory periods weekly.
Prerequisites: Biology 106 or 100b. Five semester hours.
BIOLOGY 303. PARASITOLOGY. A survey of parasitic animal groups
with emphasis on important parasites of man.
Prerequisite: Biology 106 or lOOb. Four semester hours.
BIOLOGY 304. ORNITHOLOGY. The classification, adaptive radiation,
distribution, migration, breeding habits, and ecological relationships
of birds in Texas. Two lecture hours weekly.
Prerequisite: Biology 106 or 100b. Two semester hours.
BIOLOGY 305. GENERAL ENTOMOLOGY. An introductory course
in the study of insects, including anatomy, physiology, and life histories
of representative forms, and identification of families in the
principal orders.
Prerequisite: Biology 106 or 1OOb; Chemistry 102 recommended.
Four semester hours.
BIOLOGY 306. ECOLOGY. A study of animals and plants in relation
to the physical and biological factors of their environments.
Prerequisite: Biology 106 or 100b; Chemistry 102 recommended.
