BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
BIOLOGY 535-536. ADVANCED GENERAL BIOLOGY. Designed primarily
for secondary teachers emphasizing biological principles and
concepts. Can not be counted toward a major in biology.
Prerequisite: Acceptance by Science Institute.
Three semester hours each course.
Department of Chemistry
Professor Daniel, Head of Department
The student who elects to major in chemistry must, in addition
to the general requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree, satisfy
the following requirements:
1. Thirty-two semester hours in chemistry, including 303, 304,
401, and 402.
2. Mathematics through differential and integral calculus.
3. Eight semester hours of physics, preferably Physics 201, 202.
Students expecting to do graduate work in chemistry should in
addition to the above requirements obtain six additional hours
credit chosen from the following courses: Chemistry 409, 410, 412,
and 415.
CHEMISTRY 101, 102. GENERAL CHEMISTRY. A study of the
fundamental laws and theories of chemistry, the scientific method,
and descriptive matter to illustrate. The second semester laboratory
work is a study of inorganic qualitative analysis. Three class periods,
one recitation period, and three hours of laboratory weekly.
Prerequisite: See page 154. Four semester hours.
CHEMISTRY 301. ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY. A study of the principles
and techniques of analytical chemistry. Three class periods,
one recitation period, and one three-hour laboratory period weekly.
Prerequisite: Chemistry 102, Mathematics 132 or 152.
Four semester hours.
CHEMISTRY 302. ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY. A continuation of
Chemistry 301. Two class periods, one recitation period, and two
three-hour laboratory periods weekly.
Prerequisite: Chemistry 301. Four semester hours.
CHEMISTRY 303, 304. ORGANIC CHEMISTRY. A study of the
principal classes of organic compounds. Three class periods, one
recitation period, and one three-hour laboratory period weekly.
Prerequisite: Chemistry 101 and 102.
Four semester hours for each course.99
