Academic Information
Maximum and Minimum Class Load
A semester hour represents one hour of classroom work per week per
semester. The normal student load is sixteen (16) semester hours. A full-time
student is one registered for twelve or more semester hours. After the first
semester a student who has a grade point average of 3.0 (B) or better may take
over nineteen hours if he desires and receives written approval of the Vice
President for Academic Affairs. This approval must be presented to the Admissions
and Records Office.
Non-Academic Suspension
If a student is suspended for non-academic reasons, he will receive a W, as
indicated under Withdrawal from the University.
Pass-Fail Grading Option
The Pass-Fail grading option used at Howard Payne University is intended
to encourage the student to broaden his education by taking courses for
enrichment without undue concern for a grade and its effect on his overall
grade point average. This option is permitted for any elective, except P.E.
activities, taken during the junior and/or senior years, provided the student
has a 2.5 average.
Repeated Courses
Any course taken at Howard Payne may be repeated. This is recommended
if a student receives a low grade in a course. When a course is repeated, the last
grade is the one that is counted regardless of whether it is higher or lower than
the earlier grade.
Second Bachelor's Degree
To receive a second Bachelor's degree, one must complete all the requirements
stipulated for the degree plus an additional twenty-four semester hours
beyond the requirements for the first degree.
Senior Citizen Continuing Education
Any person who is 55 years of age or older may apply for certain considerations
and benefits as are outlined below:
1. A "Senior Citizen" Identification card will be issued showing the following
information-name, social security number, address and telephone
number. The picture of the person to whom the card is issued will be
shown; this identification will be issued on applicaton with proof of age70
