HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
206. History of Education. A general survey of the past
history of education, emphasizing especially those developments
which affect present conditions. The great
educators and reformers of the past will be carefully
studied. Major.
207. History of Eadtcation in the United States. This course
seeks to familiarize the student with our own system of
education as it has developed in our own country. Education
206 recommended as a prerequisite. Major.
208. History of Education in the South. This course is
designed for the student who is specializing in the field
of the history of education, and deals with the school
systems of the Southern States. Major.
ENGLISH
Courses 101, 102, 103 and 104 are required of Freshmen
and Sophomores. Several sections of each course will be
offered every term. Freshmen may be admitted to English
103 upon the approval of the professor in charge.
101 and 102. Rhetoric and Composition. A course in which
the English language is studied for purposes of expression,
oral and written. Regular themes and frequent
tests. Two majors.
103 and 104. English Literature. A survey course in English
Literature. A study of the great writers of both prose
and poetry, correlated with history of Literature and the
lives of the authors. The fundamental principles of
literary criticism are studied. Two majors.
201. Effective English. A practical course in the English
language. Open to all students who have completed
English 101 and 102. A combined study of public speaking
and journalism. One major.60
