HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
consists of Concones' fifty lessons, Shakespeare, Randegger,
Lutgen I, Marchesi, Panafka, and simple songs.
4, 5, 6. Development of staccato, legato, phrasing, tone coloring
and distinct enunciation, special techincal work;
Concones' twenty-five lessons and fifteen lessons, Lutgen
II, Marchesi, sons from the modern English and German
composers; songs from Chaminade, von Fielitz, Hahn,
Brahms, Grieg, Schubert, Schumann.
7, 8, 9. Special Advanced Technical Work, repertoire of
well known operatic arias, advanced German, French,
English and Italian songs, final work in finish, interpretation
and preparation for graduation recital.
10, 11, 12. Continuation of Advanced Technical Work, study
of solos from classic writers. Special attention is given
to the study of oratorio work, and French, German and
Italian operas.
Glee Club and Chorus. All voice students are accorded
the opportunity of joining the classes in sight reading. A
Woman's Glee Club, and a chorus of mixed voices, is organized,
in which will be sung sacred songs, operettas, cantatas
and an oratorio. The Glee Club makes annual tours, and
is of the highest standard.
Class Recitals. Frequent class meetings will be held by
the Voice teacher, in which each student is required to sing
in the presence of others, with criticism from students.
Candidates for Diplomas in Voice must have one year in
History of Music, two years in Harmony, one year of Ensemble
and Sight Singing. These must be taken in Freshman
or Sophomore years.74
