xSDr. T. B. Carter and C. C. Russell are Bteh
Killed at Abbott.
Waco, Tex., Sept. 16.-The particulars
were received here yesterday afternoon
of a deadly affray, in which
Dr. T. B. Carter and C. C. Russell were
slain. The tragedy occurred at Abbott,
Hill county.' Dr. Carter, who
was a prominent physicina, met C. C.
Russell, a farmer and cattleman, on
the main street at Abbott at noon.
The two men were excited about a
business matter between them, and
high words were heard, followed by
shots. Both Dr. Carter and Mr. Russell
were armed with revolvers, and
the eye-witnesses say they exchanged
shots .with great rapidity, Mr. Russell
was shot in the breast, and Dr.'Carter
in the bowels. They died nearly at
the same time.
Boti were held in high es;iunatlon
at Abbott. Friends rushed to the
scene too 1ate to prevent the tragedy.

Johnson, laborer, 6 months old, was
blown from its mother's, arms. and
drowned.
The injured are:

between hip and knee; resting easy;

The buildings blown down are the
railroad roundhouse, where Mrs. MayAinsworth
was killed and Mrs,, Staf,
ford injured. They had gone there for
refuge . and were the only ones
maimed when the;juildlng colrapsed.
The other buildings demolished and
injured are the natatorium, :rear end
of the brick bank building, Townsite
Company's barns, Hotel Hayden shlfted
from foundation. Strong & Teague's
building shifted off foundation one
foot, Brennan building, Colonade hotel,
Spence & Lyon's, building, C, J.
Millers grocery store, 'Weidman's
