Corn on the Cob
I has been established that cobs
make up a much smaller propor-
tion and grain a much larger per-
centage of the crop when corn Is
grown on properly fertll ed land At
the Ewlng experimental field of the
Illinois college of agriculture corn
grown on soil fertilized with nitro-
gen phosphorus potassium and cal-
cium contained 15 per cent or 10 5
pounds of cobs per 70 pound bushel
of ear corn while the same hybrid
from untreated land on this field
contained 20 per cent or 14 pounds
of cobs per bushel of ear corn This
means that each 100 bushels of ear
corn grown on this unfertilized
land contained 350 pounds more cobs
flan 100 bushels grown on treated
land
