Lewis Passes Away
John L Lewis a brother of
V W Lewis of Canadian pas-
sed away Monday evening at
a Pampa hospital after a
months Illness
Mr Lewis who owned a farm
10 miles northeast of Pampa
was born In Iowa the family
moving to a farm 12 miles west
of Miami when he was two years
of age
He had engaged In farming
and ranching all his life and
was loved and respected by all
who knew him
Funeral services were held at
the First Christian church at
Pampa Wednesday afternoon at
530Burial
Burial was made In the Pam
pa bemetery

The Canadian rodeo club rop-
ed In competition with North-
west Oklahomas ropers at Vlci
Okla Sunday A large crowd
was present and the ropers made
fast time in the roping events
The Oklahomans total time
for all 48 calves was 12 seconds
faster than Canadians time or
an average of one second faster
per man

by a score of 10 to 9 after which
the White House team beat the
Rotary with a score of 12 to 2
Monday the High School won
over Midway by a score of 20 to
17 and Seismograph beat the
Laundry 22 to 8
Tuesday nights game was be
tween All Star Team No 1 and
All Star Team No 2 The score
was 15 to 12 In favor of the No
1 team
Wednesday Midway beat City
10 to 7 and High School beat
White House 18 to 17

Big Celebration
Plans are going forward for a
gigantic celebration party com-
memorating Perrytons 27th
birthday there Wednesday and
Thursday August 2122 under
the sponsorship of the Perryton
Junior chamber of commerce
Highlighting the two big days
of events will be Bob Wills and
Ills Texas Playboys at dances
given each evening Other events
planned include a rodeo air
hew carnival a mammoth par-
ade each day barbecue and
numerous free entertainment

man of the celebration states
that nothing Is being spared to
provide the thousands of expect-
ed visitors with a full twoday
round of events to celebrate the

Held Here Tues
No food shortage was In evi-
dence at the ice cream social
held on the lawn of the First
Christian church here Tuesday
night About 75 people gathered
to enjoy the evening Several
freezers of homemade ice cream
and many delicious cakes were
served after which there was
group singing led by Hub Hcxt
while the youngsters played a
gamlc called Red Rover
Mrs Troy Plunk wife of the
minister was presented with a
cake and a beautiful chenille
bed spread for her birthday
Andrew Peterson Injured his
arm badly on a windmill Wed-
nesday morning He is a patient
at the local hospital
W J Evans who has been
quite 111 for severalweeks will

Aden Magee son of Mr and
Mrs W O Magee dropped In on
his parents last Friday and en

removed at the local hospital

ted to the local hospital yester-
day evening for surgery

they were able to prove anything
The catch weighed over 35 pounds and was made at Studers
lake on Monday of last week The picture was made in The
News office about 10 oclock that night with flash powder
Loses Legs Here-
In Train Accident
Last Friday Night
Fred Clint White 39 of Noco
na Tex lost both legs In a train
accident here late last Friday
evening about a block north of
the reading room crossing He
Was found near the Interlocker
soon after Santa To Forwarder
No 43 stopped In the yards and
was apparently struck by No 43
Lloyd Bell was engineer of the
train and Jack Torbert was con-
ductor Neither knew of the
accident until sometime later
Fausto Parra was walking
home along the tracks when he
saw the man He saw V S
Ramirez ahead of him and ran
after him calling Vic Vic
Come and see the man on the
track with his legs cut off Mr
Ramirez told him theyd have to
get help and soon had a num-
ber of persons at the scene The
Stlckley ambulance was called
and he was rushed to the hospi
tal
His condition was found to be
critical and several blood trans
fusions were given There were
no witnesses to the accident and
he had lain alongside the track
Boy Picked Up
On Theft Charge
Wallace Young who recently
purchased the Clifford Walscr
farm employed a lCycarold
boy last week on Wednesday to
assist him on the farm That
same night he was missing
along with numerous articles be-
longing to the Youngs
They reported their loss to the
sheriffs office the next morning
and Deputy Sheriff Clint Word
picked up the lad that afternoon
The boy was from Pampa but
had been employed In Canadian
for some time
Dr William Heap who with
his wife was found dead in the
Moody hotel here recently had
made out a will in favor of
Mr and Mrs Furman Williams
and sent it to them some time
before his death Mr Williams
told a News representative yes-
terday As far as is known the
Heap property consists only of
several patents Mr Williams
said
Mr and Mrs Walter Jones
have returned to Canadian after
spending several months In Fort
Worth Mr Jones is getting along
nicely after suffering a heart
attack In the city recently
Donald Hearne of Fort Worth
arrived here this week to make
his home He will be employed
at Arties Beauty shop as an
operator
A Wheeler county man was
picked up here Monday by local
officers for stealing a spotlight
and other accessories from a
truck belonging to Earl Black
more He was held for Wheeler
county officers who hold a tire
theft charge against him

For her wedding the bride

sage She will be attended by
Miss Rita Bezner who will be
dressed in bluet Mr Pavlovsky
will act as best man for the
groom
The doublering ceremony will
be performed by Father William
Stack of Pampa after which
light refreshments will be serv-
ed to the guests
The young couple will make
their home in Detroit
Mr and Mrs Jimmle Wood
yard and son Jimmle left Wed-
nesday for California to make
their home They have purchased
a large tourist court known as
the Motor Hotel Camps which
they will operate there

ed Sunday after a vacation spent

ful Injury to her back at the Red
Deer Beach swimming pool here
Tuesday night about 8 oclock
The girl was attempting to go
down the slide feet first and face
down when she wrenched her
back in some way
She was treated by local doc-
tors at the pool and was then
taken to the Moody hotel about
830 in the Stlckley ambulance
Mr Parnell and his daughter
are visiting here with his broth-
ers Garrett Wallace and Tee
Parnell and their families
Mr Parnell left this part of
the country about 24 years ago
He opened up the first business
house In Perryton the Panhandle
cafe on August 191919 He says
that If his memory serves him
right the second business to
open was the Perryton National
bank

Miss Barbara Steele of Cana-
dian brought In some very in-
teresting recipes and helpful
hints to The News office yester-
day and thought perhaps some
of the more than three thousand
readers of the paper might like
to try them Here they are
GINGERBREAD MIX
Instead of buying packaged
mixes at the grocery store fix
your own at home When unex-
pected company comes or when
you need something to complete
the meal bake some of the fol-
lowing recipe No sugar is re-
quired
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon bakingpowder
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tespoon salt
1 cup lard
Sift flour once measure out
again with remaining dry In-
gredients Cut In lard with pas-
try blender Store In refrigerator
and use as needed When mak-
ing out use 34 cup molasses
13 cup buttermilk and 1 egg
to 2 cups of mix Bake at mod-
erate temperature for 45 minutes
HOW TO MAKE INVERT SUGAR
Mix 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup
water Add onefourth teaspoon
of tartaric acid Purchase at
any drug store Cover this sug-
ar water and tartaric acid mix-
ture and simmer gently for 30
minutes Allow it to cool Then
you have invert sugar sprup
Each cup is about one and three
fourth times as sweet as the
same weight in plain syrup
This syrup Is excellent for use
In canning but it should be di-
luted It is also good in sweeten
ing cereals ice cream and bev
erages
VARIATIONS IN CANNING
SUGAR SYRUPS
Thin Syrup 1 cup sugar and
3 cups fruit Juice or water or H
cup sugar 1 cup corn sprup and
3 cups fruit Juice or water or U
cup invert sugar syrup and 1 cup
water or Wcup sugar 1 cup
honey and 3 cups fruit Juice
Medium Syrup 1 cup sugar
and 2 cups fruit Juice or 1 cup
sugar 2 cups corn syrup and 3
cups juice or water or 1 cup
sugar 2 cups honey and 3 cups
juice or water or Wcup Invert
sugar syrup and 1 cup water
Heavy Syrup 1 cup sugar
and 1 cup water or juice or 1
cup sugar 2 cups corn syrup
and l4 cups water or Juice or
1 cup sugar 2 cups honey and
1W cups water or juice or 1 cup
Invert sugar syrup and 1 cup
water
