Club Started Here
The first meeting of what is
called the Breakfast club for
want of a name was enjoyed by
twentythree business men and
Tanchers Monday morning In the
new dining room at the Killar
ney cafe
It is believed that this club is
jrnique in that it Is absolutely
unorganized There are no off
cers no rules no dues and no
attendance records You simply
attend if you can and want to
There are no programs and no
speeches are heard unless there
be some important announce-
ment of general Interest
Every man orders his own
breakfast and waitresses are in
structed to make an individual
check for each man
The club met at the suggestion
Of C W Callaway and Its sole
object is to enjoy a visit with
and to get better acquainted
with fellow citizens Newcomers
in the community are especially
welcome and should find the
club a splendid place to get ac
quainted with the men of the
community
The breakfasts start each Mon-
day morning at G30 and are
over by 8 Whether you arrive
or depart early or late is no
bodys business but your own
hut the first breakfast would In
dicate that most of the men will
enjoy the entire hour and a half

in many famous battles being

Mrs Hargrave Is
Called By Death
Mrs Annie Mary Hargrave
passed away at her home here
Sunday morning at 1120
Mrs Hargraves health had
been falling for the past two
years and she had been In es-
pecially poor health this sum-
mer but she did not become ser-
iously ill until three days be-
fore her death
Mrs Hargrave was born at
Hayes Kans in 1870 and came
to this part of the country with
her parents Mr and Mrs E E
Polly in 1877 locating on Com-
mission creek south of the pre-
sent site of Hlggins Her father
had a stage coach station there
and was also the first druggist
In this section which proved
very helpful In getting along
with the Indians
The family moved to what is
now Hemphill county before
either Hemphill county or Rob-
erts county was organized There
were only two or three families
living here at the time Mr
Polly was the first county judge
and ran the post office
Mrs Hargrave was married in
1894 at Hot Springs Ark to
David Moffet Hargrave pioneer
rancher who passed away here
May 11 1928
She was noted for her kindness
and was always a good neigh
bor She was a lifelong member
of the Catholic church In fact
she was baptised by an old
priest who made a yearly trip
through that part of the coun
try always paying her parents
a visit and arriving that year
In time to perform the baptismal
service for her when she was
only 214 hours old She was al
ways a faithful devoted member
and attended church regularly
up until two months ago when
her health would no longer per-
mit the strain
Mrs Hargrave is survived by
three children Mrs E R Cloyd
of Canadian David Andrew
Hargrave of Long Beach Calif
and James Temple Hargrave of
Joplln Mo Also by six grand
children and one greatgrand
child
Funeral services were held at
the Church of the Sacred Heart
here Wednesday morning at 10
oclock with burial In the local
cemetery

Perryton received 189 Inches
of rainfall Monday night accord
ing to the Ochiltree County Her-
ald The rain fell in about forty
five minutes and was accompa-
nied by a strong wind No prop-
erty damage was reported
Mr and Mrs Al RIckert of
Mineral Wells spent a few days
here In the A V McQulddy home
recently Mrs RIckert Is hostess
at the Baker hotel in Mineral

J F Oehlert Is
Pensioned After
35 Years Service
J F Oehlert division foreman
for the Santa Fe at Canadian re-
ceived a pension March 31 after
thirtyfive years of service with
the Santa Fe
Mr Oehlert started railroad
work in 1901 with the C G II
railroad serving his time as a
machinists apprentice at Gal-
veston In 1907 he went to work
for the G C S F atSilbee
Tex He was promoted to fore-
man in 1910 and left the G C
S F in 1912 going to work for
the Southern Pacific at Houston
in 1914
He went back to work for the
G C S F railroad In 1916 and
went to Clovls as a machinist
for the A T S Ft After a few
months service he was promoted
to roundhouse foreman at Belen

Mr Oehlert has seen service
at Slaton Amarlllo and Cana-
dian

Dies At Miami
Funeral services were con-
ducted at 10 oclock Monday
morning at the First Methodist
church in Miami for Thomas B
Oliver who passed away at 10
oclock last Friday morning at
his home following a heart at-
tack
The services were in charge of
theRev J W Bruce pastor of the
Canadian Nazarene church the
Rev C A Holcomb Jr pastor of
the Miami Methodist church and
the Rev W Howard Moore Bap-
tist minister
Mr Oliver was 73 years of age
the time of his death He was
a pioneer Panhandle citizen and
had resided at Mendota for a
number of years He was well
and favorably known by many
Canadian and Hemphill county

Rotary Club To
MeetAtKillarney
It was noted by the Rotary
club this week to move to the
Klllarney for the regular Tues-
day meetings The meetings
have previously been held In the
WCTU building but l t was
thought the new location might
prove more convenient for most
of the business men
It was decided to hold all
special meetings In the WCTU
building and to continue paying
the WCTU ten per cent of the
price of meals as a service to a
worthy project in the commun-
ity

Ordained Here At
Christian Church
The First Christian church
here was the scene of an im-
pressive service Wednesday eve-
ning when C W Callaway Jr
was formally ordained to the
Gospel ministry The Rev Roy S
Davis minister of the Christian
church in Hobbs N M and a
former minister at Canadian de-
livered the ordination message
He centered his comments about
Hebrews 122 and especially
about the phrase In which the
statement is made of Jesus who
for the joy that was set before
Him endured the cross
Hub Hext a member of the
church sang the hymn My
Task
The minister of the church the
Rev Troy H Plunk made ex
amination of the candidate and
delivered the charge to the can
dldate and to the congregation
Three elders of the congregation
with Mr Plunk officiated in the
laying on of hands upon the
candidate and Mr Plunk offered
the ordination prayer
The young man Is the son of
Mr and Mrs C W Callaway of
Canadian His father Is assistant
manager In the general offices of
the White House lumber com
pany
Following graduation from
Canadian high school In 1938
C W Callaway Jr entered
Phillips university at Enid
Okla and received the A B
degree there In 1943 In 1944 he
received the B S L degree from
the Cincinnati Bible seminary in
Ohio and this past spring Mrs
Callaway received there a like
degree while her husband had
furthered in that seminary his
graduate training
Mr Callaway began preach
ing in 1940 and since then has
ministered to churches In Okla
homa and Indiana while i
student in college and seminary
He with Mrs Callaway and their
two sons are preparing to study
medicine this winter In London
England and then propose to
engage upon pioneer missionary
work in Northern Burma a year
from this fall During this sum
mer he has spoken In numerous
Churches of Christ Christian
churches of his mission plans
and he intends to leave this
week on a threeweek tour of the
churches of Arizona and Cali-
fornia

have as their guest this week
Mr McQulddys nephew Arthur
McQulddy of Saint Louis Mo
He served during the war in the
Pacific as a pilot

Family Reunion
Mr and Mrs H H Marks at-
tended the Weatherby family
reunion held near Bohan Tex
last week A large number of
relatives were in attendance In-
cluding ten of the brothers and
sisters
One sister was taken 111 on
the way to the gathering in fact
only six miles away and was
taken to the hospital where she
remains a patient
While away Mr and Mrs
Marks visited with Mr and Mrs
C A Gllley who live on a farm
near Bohan Mr Gilley is a
former superintendent of the
Canadian schools At the time of
his retirement he was a member
of the teaching staff of Sui Ross
college

AdcocK is giving a
house party tonight at the home
of her
parents here Party games
and dancing will take up the
evening
Mr and Mrs Earl Blackmore
and children have returned
home after a twoweek vacation
spent in Colorado and New Mex
ico They attended the
horse
races at Raton while they were

Crash Plane Here
Max Wiley and his brother
of Wheeler were painfully In
jured near here Sunday after-
noon when the small plane in
which they were riding crashed
in the sandy bed of the river
The boys were enjo ylng a low
altitude flight over the river
when the accident occurred
Max lost seven teeth and suf
fered a fractured Jaw His broth-
er suffered severe facial bruises
Damage to the plane was es i
timated at near 100000 The
boys cited the cause of the crash
as an error in piloting
