Who is the Hemphill Coun
ty Citizens Committee
Against Prohibition com-
posed of
What is the HCCCAP run
ning down the bootleggers
for Dont the bootleggers
sell the same thing the
HCCCAP stands for
Isnt Texas a wet state
Doesnt that mean that our
fine old folks will continue
to get heir measly pittance
to keep them alive in their
helpless old age REGARD-
LESS OF WHETHER
HEMPHILL COUNTY HAS
BEER OR NOT
When our beloved old folks
reach that sad day all too
soon that they near Deaths
door then who you
Hemphill County Citizens
Committee Against Prohibi
tion are they going to be
thinking of Our Savior Je-
sus Christ and the good doc
tors and earnest ministers
OR THE BEER JOINTS7
Does not professional
mean doing something for
money Does the HCCCAP
infer that the aroused citi-
zens of Hemphill County are
not sincere in their fight
against liquor Would the
members of the HCCCAP
care to publish their names
alongside a list of the cith
zens who HATE liquor
Is not Pcrryton Texas a
prosperous community and
marching forward Has
not this neighboring city
knocked liquor for a loop
every time it came to a vote
Does Canadian depend upon
the drinking class of the
more prosperous cities for its
livelihood
Is it not a fact that money
not spent on liquor will be
spent on other things Are
not other forms of amuse-
ment and luxury also taxed
Will not money spent on
other things also be used for
helping our old folks and
schools
Are not our capable and
honest officers of the law
able to keep greedy law
breaking bootleggers out of
Hemphill county without
the help of the beer joints
Are our state patrolmen
so ignorant or corrupt that
a traffic in liquor will take
place on the highway be
tween Canadian and Pampa
Is it not a fact fhat twenty
per cent of all automobile
drivers involved in fatal ac
cidents last year had been
drinking Does not fatal
mean more to the ACCCAP
than just something that
tends to decrease the trade
in value of the cars
Does not the HCCCAP ad-
vertise that as citizens in-
terested in the welfare and
progress of our county we
believe in presenting the
TRUTH Does the HCCCAP
deny that practically an the
meanness and cussedness
that goes on in the county
is caused by drink

A Bar To Heaven
A Door To Hell
On Monday afternoon on the
sixteenth of June a sixteen
yearold girl died here after
suffering severely for thirtysix
days and with her death ended
a series of pitiful accidents that
will be a black mark upon the
history of the county for many
years to come
it is Impossible to undo now
what has gone before It does no
good now to say what might
have been A door to darkness
and despair was open and tears
and aching hearts remain
Lynette Frances Camas with
everything to live for Is gone
For her loving parents Mr and
Mrs L F Garnas and eleven
yearold brother Gaylor the
world has lost Its meaning She
might have been your girl or
our girl She didnt want to die
Prohibiting the sale of liquor
in Hemphill county may not
prevent tragedies such as this
Some of the substantial citizens
of the county do not believe that
It will be good for the town If
liquor is not voted out here on
the fourth of October It will be
due to the Influence of such men
as these They who make a pre-
tense of being explicitly moral
are pulling a mockery on society
and the Christian way of life
There are other people In the
county They think the absence
of liquor may cut down the
number of twisted wrecks with
dripping blood and the remorse-
ful crys of Im so sorry Im so
sorry They think it will elimi-
nate a contributing factor for
delinquency divorce arid broken
homes They are not so callous
and indifferent to the lives and
welfare of others that they are
not shocked by the thoughts of
what may He ahead
l The sweet and joyful spirit
that was Lynette hated liquor
Against PROHIBITION not
called the Hemphill County
Citizens Committee Against
Prohibiting the Sale of Beer
Is it not a fact that some of
Canadians substantial citi-
zens favor liquor stores for
Canadian Do not liquor
stores mean WHISKEY

with a bitterness unusual In one
so young She loved music and
she loved poetry and sometimes
she sought to put her thoughts
Into words on paper She wrote
of life and death and the joys
of living And sometimes she
wrote of the sadness too
We have on our desk tonight
a poem in Lynettes handwriting
written on school notebook
paper She called It The Saloon
Bar and with the kind per-
mission of her sorrowing parents
we print It here
A bar to Heaven a door
to Hell
Whoever named It nam-
ed it well
A bar to manliness and
wealth
A door to want and brok-
en health
A bar to honor pride and
fame
A door to sin and grief
and shame
A bar to hope a bar to
prayer
A door to darkness and
despair
A bar to honored useful
life
A door to brawling
senseless strife
A bar to all thats true
and brave
A door to every drunk-

A bar to joy that home
