> < One of the most charming Yule-
tide chucklera concerns the pig-
tailed youngster who found a pin-
cushion among her other gifts on
f Christmas morning The little girl
then placed this note near the flre
place Dear Santat Thank you
very much or your presents And
I always wanted a pin cushion al
though not Very much
Another classic of the season Is
the one about the woman who
stopped to chat with a friend after
the Yuletfde services leaving her
purse In her pew When she re-
turned for her purse she discovered
It was gone However she quickly
found it In the possession of the
clergyman
Jl thought X had better hold it
he explained There are some In
the congregation who dont believe
in Santa CJaus but they might
consider this purse an answer to
their prayers
A 10 year old boy making his first
visit at Sunday school during the
pre Christmas season was held
spellbound by the teachers re-
cital of Biblical stories about the
Holy Day and the spiritual meaning
of Christmas Later he was asked
to fill out the schools standard ques-
tionnaire for new pupils One of the
queries was Who will always know
where you are
The little boy answered It by
writing simply God
Invariably revived at the Yuletide
season Is the yarn about the Scots-
man who slipped and fell while
carrying a bottle of Christmas spir-
its On rising he felt something
wet running down his leg
He said to himself I hope its
blood
Almost overcome with joy on
Christmas Day when she received
two gifts she had most ardently de-
sired a wristwatch and a bottle
of perfume little Margaret chat-
tered about the new possessions all
clay long wearying her mother of
the subject Guests were expected
for dinner and her mother gently
admonished Margaret In advance
saying Now dear everybody
knows about your presents and ev-
erybody Is happy for you Eut now
we mustnt go on talking about them
all the time
The little girl held her peace at
the table throughout the greater part
of the meal A lull occurred in
f the conversation and unable to
restrain herself Margaret burst
forth If anyone hears anything or
smells anything Its me I
I A department store Santa Claus
listened to a long recital of requests
by a tot assuring her he would do
his best to meet her requirements
Before she left Santa handed her
a bright red apple What do you
want Santa to do now her moth-
er asked
The moppet promptly snapped

Stopping the Squeak
Squeaking floon often are annoy
lng and ihould be checked as soon
they develop The exact place
where the squeak occur ihould b
marked If the joists on which the
floor It laid are exposed on th
underside It Is possible to locate the
queaky areas from below Where
cracks occur between flooring and
joists small wedges driven between
the subiloor and the Joists will pre-
vent further noise It may be neces

The twinkling tree which adds
holiday cheer to practically every

Christmas tree business into the
realm of big business Some 14

X heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old familiar carols play
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth good will to menl
And thought how as the day had
come
The belfries of all
Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken
song
Of peace on earth
good will to
menl
Till ringing singing on Its way
The world revolved from night to-
day
A voice a chime
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth good will to menl
Then from each black
mouth
The cannon thun-
dered In the
South
And with the
sound
The carols
drowned
Of peace on earth good will to menl
tt was as If an earthquake rent
The hearth stones of a continent
And made forlorn
The households born
Of peace on earth good will to menl
And in despair I bowed my head
There Is no peace on earth I said
For hate is strong
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth good will to
men
Then pealed the bells more loud and
deep
God is not dead
nor doth he

to one that at one time in your career the short

your mind that there was a Santa Claus You not
only believed in him but you were in awe of himl
Santa Claus was a short rolypoly gentleman
habitually clad in red with flowing white beard He
drove through the world Christmas Eve in a heavily
laden sleigh drawn by eight dashing reindeer
