caught on Monday evening, on
one of the cotton platforms,
near the depot in a glorious
state of intoxication and busily
engaged in lighting matches in
close proximity to cotton bales.
He was speedily taken in. It
was a clear case and 52.50 to
gether with the trimmings was
entered up against him. His
address is "city bastile."

A sad accident occurred here
last Saturday evening. A par-
ty went out to run a pony race,
and on the way back two of the
party thought to run a little race
for fun. The horse of one of the
parties rjnning near a tree, the
rider was violently thrown and
mortally injured, and the result
to-day is, that Steuben Flake is
dead. He was an honorable,
high-toned gentleman, and we
all mourn his untimely end.—
He leaves a daughter, and a host
of sympathising relatives and
friends to mourn his sad fate.

This play will be given at the
opera house to-night. The
Houston Telegram of yester-
day says:
The Frayne and Tiffany com-
bination played to a large audi-
ence last night at this theater,
and kept it in continual good
humor from first to last.
The play is a romantic pic-
ture of border life, from the pen
of Clifton W. Tayleure, entitled
"Si Slocum," the principal
character being taken by Mr.
Frank J. Frayne, who represent-
ed Si Slocum, a trapper, while
Miss Tiffany took the part of
Ruth Slocum, his wife, both be-
ing artists of ability. The sup-
port throughout was excellent,
and the dogjack, which is splen-
didly trained, a host in himself.
Mr. Frayne is fully as good a
marksman as "Buffalo Bill"
himself, and gave the audience
a fine exhibition of his skill with
the rifle. To-night the troupe
will again appear in the same
play, and they are deserving of
a good house.

they are simply expulsory. Hence they
are useless; for unless the causes of the

impossible. Fritsch's Prussian Cough
