The J. A. McDougle Home

The land on which the J. A. McDougle home in Georgetown
stands has been owned by the following:
The Republic of Texas granted 1/3 league on the San Gabriel
River to Clement Stubblefield, Aug. 19, 1844, the grant signed by
President Sam Houston.
Clement Stubblefield sold the 1/3 league on Oct. 10, 1848,
to Thomas B. Huling for $150.
Thomas B. Huling sold some of the land from the above league
to G. W. Glasscock in April, 1850, for $1250, and additionally re-
linquished "all the lands on the East side of Brushy Street, George-
town," to Glasscock on Mar. 4, 1851, for $5, thus terminating a
partnership between the two men in real estate ventures.
G. W. Glasscock sold 17 3/4 acres from the tract to Thomas
P. Hughes on Feb. 16, 1857, for $221.87, with the stipulation that
Hughes reserve 10 varas along the north line of the tract for a road
(which eventually became University Avenue). Hughes built a home on
the land (somewhat to the west of the later-built McDougle home).
Hughes also laid out the Hughes Addition on another portion of the
tract, of which the McDougle lot was a part.
Thomas P. Hughes sold "Block B" of his tract, 240 feet square,
to Lou Etta Booty on Dec. 31, 1894, for $1400. **
A. A. Booty and Lou Etta Booty sold the south half of Block
B on Jul. 25, 1895, to J. A. McDougle for $700.
On Nov. 22, 1901, J. A. and Clara McDougle sold their home,
lot and other "improvements" on the south half of Block B., Hughes
Addition, to John R. Allen for $45,Q0.
John R. Allen and wife, Mollie F. C. Allen, negotiated a sale
of the above property on Jan. 15, 1910, to W. J. and Annie D.
Flanagan, for $4,000. One the death of W. J. Flanagan Jan. 27, 1933,
a deed of trust was executed, dated May 15, 1935, to the widow, Annie
Flanagan.
The McDougle property was purchased from Mrs. Annie Flanagan
by Halsell P. Armstrong and wife, Frances Nell Armstrong, on Aug. 22,**A much more detailed description of the foregoinpr property,
