The city school board met
Tuesday afternoon and elected
tho following assistant teaohers
for next year: Miss Bolding,
Bartlett; Miss Brady, Jewett,
Miss Waoker, Now Braunsfel.
Tho election of first assistant was
deferred.
Mrs. Leshikor, of Smithville,
i3'vititing her cousin, Mrs. John
Maleohek.
Dr, Jas. Campbell, presiding
elder of the Fort Worth district,
will preaoh at the Mothodist
(jhuroh next Sunday.
The residence of Frank Newton
was blown from its foundation
during the wind storm last Sun-
day but no particular damage
was done.
There will be aAK of P, mem-
orial meeting at the Lodge Hall
next Tuesday night, to which all
members and friends of the ordor
are cordially invited. Don't
fail to come.
Precinct Convention.
A democratic primary conven-
tion was held in this voting pre-
cinct of Williamson county last
Saturday for the purpose of se-
lecting delegates to the William- '
son County Democratic conven-
tion on tomorrow, June 1 1
Chairman; E. F. Kelley called
the convention to order, the con-
vention then elected Stanton Al-
len to be secretary of the Conven-
tion. A motion was then made
and carried that the chairman ap-
point a committee of thrde to se-
lect and report the names of eight
men to be delegates to such cpn-
ventio'n and eight others to be al-
ternates, the chairman appointed
on said Committee the ..following
named: W. J. Cagle, J. D. Slaw-
son and J. S. Poynor, and said
committee reported as follows;
We suggest the followiug
named to be delegates to the
County Convention: Stanton Al-
len, R. F. Cates, Lucas Rowntree,
Geo. P. Owens, J. V. Morris, W.
D. Jarrel' John Partlow, J. L.
Bailey, and we suggest the follow-
ing named to be alternates: Chas.
Kaase, John Wells. Bob Tankers-
ley, I. S. Poynor, John T. Bart-
lett, W. G. Whitlow, W. W. Wal-
ton, and W. J. Cagle. It was
moved that the report be adopted,
and the motion carried and saidb
delegares declared elected.
A motion was then made that (
said deiegates be instructed to
vote for instructions to our dele-
gates to the national convention
to vote for Judge Parker for pres-
ident. This motion was put and
failei to carry, the convention
then adjourned. Motion prevail-
ed that the unit rule prevail.

Secretary. Negro Shot ana Arrested.
On last Saturday afternoon
Messrs. Jim and Walter Thomp-
son, accompanied by Constable
Robinscn, of Davilla, left for
Temple in search of tho negro,
who a few days before had as-
saulted the first named in hia
field, near Davilla, and made his
escape. They learned that the
negro was at Temple, through a
letter sent here directing the ship,,
menfc of some clothing to him at
that place. After a search they
found him about 9 o'clock that
night in a diye. .f : Thompson
was the first to er, cer and the ne-
gro spied him, and at once made
an attack upon him with a knife,
whereupon Mr. Thompson shot
him, through the thigh.
However, the acoused did not
givb up but continued to figtfc
until overpowered by the officers.
He was taken to the doctors, his
wound dressed after whioh Con-
stable Robinson carried him to
Cameron.
