night arrested Jesse Chappel, a
negro, wanted at Bllville, Aus-
tin county on charge of assault
to murder. Sheriff Palm of that
county arrived here last night
and will leave for homo to day

ternoon by City Marshal Belk
as they v ere supposed to be mak-
ing a dash for liberty. The
marshal ia a good hand at "head-
ing off" runaway teams, any-
way. Sam F. Drake writoa to the
Journal that ho has sold out hie
business at Bartlett and is now
temporarily stationed at Win-
chester. Mr. Drake says that ho
iB undecided at present as to his

a pleasant caller at the Tribune
offioo a few days ago, and report-
ed that the boya of his neighbor-
hood had reoently serenaded him.

Mr. R. J. GreiBenbeok, of
Bastrop, waa horo this week on a
yieit to hia son, Bruno Greisen
beok, who is engaged with the
brokerage firm of Greisenbeok &
Thompson. Mr. Griesenbeok ia
at present engaged in the broker-
age .business at Bastrop, and ia
enjoying a splendid trade. For
a number of years he was dis-
trict clerk of Bastrop county,
and i8 one among the few men
voluntarily reaigned from politi-
cal offioe. For many yeara he
waa manager of tho State Ga-
zette, published in Austin in the
70'e and hia experiencea of early
newspaper work are varied and
quite interenting oapooially to
the oraft. Mr. Griasenbeok is
highly pleased with the business
outlook of Bartlett, and express
ed himself acme what, yet agree-
ably surprised at the progress
blng made here.

A charming affair was given
by the Wojaan'a Department
Club at their olub rooma on Val-
entine night with progressive
"42." The hall was exquisitely
decorated with tiny red heartf
festooned gracefully about and
an immense heart, pierced by an.
arrow, hung from the center of
the ceiling. The latter was pre-
sented to Mrs. Geo, Hompel, who
won the laurels of the evenings

tine. One had but to look into
