What is Lemonade Day?
Sponsored by Prepared 4 Life and its many
community partners, Lemonade Day is a citywide
event aimed at Greater Houston youth, designed to
teach young people how to start, own and operate
their own lemonade business. On Lemonade Day,
thousands of kids will set up lemonade stands
across the Greater Houston area - providing an
opportunity for businesses and families to pair
together to train the next generation of
entrepreneurs through a fun, family activity.
What is the objective of Lemonade
Day?
Lemonade Day has two purposes to teach Houston's
youth about entrepreneurship and to raise money for
Prepared 4Life's after-school programs. With the
support and involvement of their families and other
community members, students will receive an
education in business operation by running their
own lemonade stand. Through individual Web pages
that may be set up when they register at
www.LemonadeDay.org, anyone can also raise
money to support Prepared 4Life's after-school
programs for middle school students.
Can anyone have a lemonade
stand?
Yes! Any child can register for an official lemonade
stand as long as a responsible adult agrees to work
with them. After registering online at
www.LemonadeDay.org, kids will be encouraged to
go to any Amegy Bank location across the Greater
Houston area, with a responsible adult who can sign
a consent form, and pick-up their Lemonade Day
Entrepreneur's Package. This package will include
all of the information and tools needed to run a
lemonade stand. Go to www.LemonadeDay.org to
search for an Amegy Bank location near you. Kids
will also be given the option of downloading the
Entrepreneur Workbook from
w w w.LemonadeDay. org.
Where does the money go?
Students will keep what they earn - that is of course,
after covering their expenses and paying back their
investors. Students will also be given information on
how to open a youth savings account so the money
they earn can continue to grow. As part of the
entrepreneurial experience, participating students
will know what it feels like to earn their profits}
Are the stands supervised?
To register for an official Prepared 4 Life lemonade
stand and to participate in the event, the student's
parent or guardian must sign a consent form
agreeing that a responsible adult will assist and
supervise the student. Lemonade Day is designed to
be a day of educational fun and safety is the number
one priority. While we encourage all to participate,
this is a family activity and Prepared 4 Life is not
responsible for the supervision of any child nor any
injury or damage related to participation in the
program.
Where will the stands be set up?
Students will select their own locations for the
stands, which means lemonade will be available
across the Greater Houston area! NOTE: Students
will be responsible for obtaining permission to sell
lemonade on private property. The City of Houston
has graciously agreed to allow lemonade stands to
be set up in any Houston park.
Are there any prizes?
You bet there are! To raise money for Prepared 4
Life and its partners, any child can set up their own
virtual lemonade stand Web site through
www.LemonadeDay.org and ask everyone they
know to donate by buying virtual lemonade. The
proceeds will support Prepared 4 Life's after-school
programs in Houston's middle schools, and kids
have the opportunity to earn a prize based upon how
much money they raise.
Will there be instructions on how
to run a lemonade stand?
Absolutely! Lemonade Day is all about learning
how to run your own business. Prepared 4 Life will
provide how-to workbooks and Web tutorials to
teach students participating in Lemonade Day about
budgets, securing investors, choosing locations and
making signs. In addition, Prepared 4 Life will
cover life-long lessons for a successful business
including customer service, starting a savings
account, and giving back to the community and of
course, how to make lemonade!
How do kids sign up?
Students can register online at
www.LemonadeDay.org and will then receive
information about how to pick up their Lemonade
Day Entrepreneur's Package at any Amegy Bank
location throughout the Houston area.
How can corporations get
involved?
What a great opportunity to prepare our children for
the business world and also to give employees a fun
day with their families!: Through donations,
companies can underwrite Lemonade Day
Entrepreneur Briefcases for underserved youth.
Businesses are also encouraged to get employees
involved by distributing information or even
creating a company-wide family event around
Lemonade Day... the possibilities are endless.
Simply go online at www.LemonadeDay.org to
register your company or make a donation.
Can schools participate?
We encourage every school in the city, public and
private, to get involved. Lemonade Day is a unique
experiential learning opportunity combining
academics and life skills to teach kids about
entrepreneurship. It is also a chance for teachers,
families and students to work together and have fun!
Simply go online at www.LemonadeDay.org and
register.
