  • Content Description: This map is a nautical chart showing the topography and hydrography of the area in Texas around the entrance to the Rio Grande River. The physical features are shaded with relief (and depths) shown by soundings. Depths are marked with lines, shading (rendered in a dot pattern), and numbers in feet. Depths are marked with lines and numbers in feet. According to text in the lower left corner, the various measurements to create the map were made between 1853 and 1854; the text also gives specific latitude and longitude of the area in the map. The text is labeled "Note" and "Tides" which gives explanatory details regarding the markings and measurements on the map. Scale 1:20,000.
