Mrs. Jack Mtrnnett Killed By
Lightning Early Haturday
Mrs, Jack Htennett of Seymour,
aged 34, was Instantly killed about
4:00 o'clock Saturday morning by a
stroke of lightning, Hho and her
children were on their furm 2'A
rnllea southeast of Round Timber,
and about 22 miles southeast of Key-
mour, when the tragedy occurred,
Mrs. Stennett had gotten up to see
whether things were getting wet, ns
It was Just an unoccupied house and
the roof leaked badly, The floor was
wet where water had run across It,
and It Is believed Mrs, .Stennett may
have stepped on a radio aerial wire,
and the wire was found to be burned
up by the lightning. Another thing
that might have been a contributing
cause was there wore some scraps of
tin on the roof.
Phone lines were out and dirt
roads were quagmires, and It became
a very difficult mutter to establish
any communications. Help finally
arrived, and the funeral was arranged
for (1:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon at
Round Tlmbor. During the electric-
al storm a veritable flood of water
fell, and one report stated that an
ordinary wash tub, sitting out In
the open, caught full of water,
Funeral services were conducted
by Pastor Roark of the Baptist
church, and a large crowd of sorrow-
ing friends gathered for the rites, It
was described as being one of the
most pitiful spectacles that has been
seen In this country, Mrs. Stennett
was a very fine woman, and as the
mother of six young children, It
seemed that she wus badly needed
iri the* world,
Mrs, Stennett. was the daughter of
Mr, and Mrs, A. L. Ayt.cn, and she
was born and reared at Round Tim-
ber, living there continuously ex-
cept for the pant three years, when
the family lived nt Seymour, Mr,
Stennett had been with the high-
way department, but has recently
been working nt night with an oil
well crew In V/estover community,
and his wife and children had been
on an outing at. their little farm,
Besides her husband, deceased Is
survived by the following children:
Arthur Lee, James, Nelma, Jackie
Fern, Gwendolyn and Buddy. The
lust named Is four years old, while
Arthur Lee Is 10. The parents, Mr,
and Mrs. Aytes, and five sisters and
one brother survive, Mrs. Stennett
had been a member of the Baptist
church since the age of 16, and she
was a devoted Christian, It Is fine
to know that all Is well with her
soul, but the occasion of her home
going has formed a heart-breaking
time for the loved ones and the
friends, who giv« every kind of sym-
pathy that could help these loved
ones bear their great sorrow,
